Pakistan's Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told the media in Islamabad on Thursday that Pakistan has closed the Samjhauta Express train service with India. However, railway officials in India said the train has not been suspended.
During the second round of talks to discuss draft agreement and operationalisation of the Kartarpur corridor at Wagah, India asked Pakistan to permit not just Indian nationals but also Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), holding OCI cards.
The 4-km-long corridor will connect Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur district with Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib Narowal in Pakistan. The corridor will provide visa-free access to the Indian Sikh pilgrims to the gurdwara.
