IPL (Indian Premier League) founder and former chief Lalit Modi has threatened to sue former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in a UK court over his remarks, connecting Modi with corruption and money laundering. Modi took refuge in London in 2010 after being charged with financial irregularities in the IPL.
He lashed at Gandhi on Thursday, tweeting, "I see just about every Tom dick and Gandhi associates again and again saying i ama fugitive of justice. why ?How?and when was i to date ever convicted of same..." Lalit Modi further refuted Gandhi's claims saying that none of the charges against him have proven to be true till date and that he is also the man behind the world's greatest sporting event.

Modi's scathing attack on Gandhi's "Modi surname" remarks comes within days after a Surat court convicted Rahul Gandhi to a two-year sentence in the 2019 defamation case over his remarks on the Modi surname. Following the sentencing, he was disqualified as an MP of Lok Sabha. While addressing a poll rally in Karnataka's Kolar, Rahul Gandhi had said, “How come all thieves have the common surname Modi.”

Modi also accused several Congress leaders of possessing overseas assets, adding that he can provide addresses and photos of their properties. He said that he will return to India as soon as the country passes stringent libel laws.

Meanwhile, there has been no response on the end of Rahul Gandhi over Modi's series of tweets or his legal threat so far. The Congress has maintained that Rahul's conviction was politically motivated and that he will appeal against it in a higher court. Gandhi has been vocal about his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over various issues, especially crony capitalism following the Adani-Hindenburg report.
