Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday targeted the Modi government over reports of Chinese engineers exiting from Foxconn’s iPhone plant in south India and China’s recent curbs on export of rare earth magnets.

He also questioned the government's silence on Chinese restrictions on supply of speciality fertilisers.

Taking to X, Kharge said, “Narendra Modi ji, reports suggest that China is pulling out its officials from India’s manufacturing sector. Is it not true that your government, which has failed on 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', had set aside the concerns of Doklam and Galwan to roll out the red carpet for Chinese companies? You even eased visa norms for Chinese nationals to help them benefit from the PLI scheme.”

Kharge’s remarks come amid reports of Chinese engineers exiting from Indian manufacturing plant, and China’s move to restrict exports of key components vital to manufacturing, including rare earth magnets.

"Will this not harm our crores of farmers, who are already facing a crisis of Urea and DAP fertilisers?" he asked.

The Congress president further alleged the government's 'Chinese guarantee' had no expiry date. He also added that Modi gave a 'clean chit' to China five years ago, after the sacrifice of 20 brave soldiers of Galwan and China was taking full advantage of it and it appeared that India was watching helplessly.

Kharge also highlighted Beijing’s chokehold on rare earth minerals.

He said that China had imposed strict restrictions on exporting Rare Earth Magnets & Minerals to India, which are absolutely essential for Automobiles, EVs, Defence, and High-Security Currency Printing, among others.

“Is it not true that the Modi government is taking no steps on this matter, and Chinese officials have not even granted an official appointment or consent to the delegation from the Indian Automobile Industry?” he questioned.

Kharge also criticized the government on speciality fertilizers stating that in the last two months, China had stopped exporting Speciality Fertilizers to India, while continuing supplies to other countries.
