Commonwealth Games 2022, Day 11 Highlights: India Finishes 4th With 22 Gold Medals

India won four gold medals on the final day of Commonwealth Games 2022 through PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Achanta Sharath Kamal and the men's doubles badminton pair. India finished on 61 medals, including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze. Catch CWG 2022, day 11 highlights.

India won six medals on the final day of Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 Monday to finish fourth in the overall standings behind Australia (178), England (176), and Canada (92). In the previous edition (Gold Coast 2018), India had won 66 to finish third. This time, India's medal haul was severely dented by the absence of shooting. The final day started with table tennis star Sathiyan Gnanasekaran winning the men's singles bronze medal play-off. It was followed by three gold medals from the badminton court, with PV Sindhu (women's singles), Lakshya Sen (men's singles), and the pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (men's doubles) winning their respective finals. Veteran table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal won the men's singles final but the men's hockey team was humbled by Australia in the final. Catch Commonwealth Games 2022 day 11 highlights:

    Men's Hockey - Australia Beat India 7-0

    Not the end India wanted on a day that yeilded four gold and a bronze medal. The Indian men's hockey team was thrashed 7-0 by Australia in the men's hockey final to be content with silver. Australia's CWG domination in men's hockey continues. They have so far won all the competitions so far since the inclusion of the sport in 1998. India didn't even earn a single penalty corner in the final.

    TT - Sharath Kamal Wins Men's Singles Gold

    Fourth Gold Medal for India on the last day of CWG 2022. Achanta Sharath Kamal beats England's Liam Pitchford to win his third gold medal in Birmingham. Sharath finished on the top of the podium in men's singles after a gap of 16 years. he takes his overall medal tally to 13 at the CWG, since making his Games debut in 2006.

What a journey it has been for the girl from Hyderabad. Interestingly,  Michelle had beaten the 2019 World Champion way back in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

    Closing Ceremony Flagbearers

    Star paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal and world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen have been named India's flagbearers during the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022. The 40-year-old Sharath has a rich haul of four medals in this edition of the Games, having won the men's team and mixed team gold and a silver in the men's doubles event. He will also be playing in the men's singles gold medal match later in the day. Zareen, on the other hand, won the gold medal in the light flyweight event (50kg) on Sunday. Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh were the flagbearers for the opening ceremony.

    Hello and welcome to the final day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Despite the shooter and archers, who has been excluded in this edition, it has been a brilliant campaign for India so far after having started slow. The wrestlers and boxers hogged the limelight besides from incredible performances in track and field. India will end CWG 2022 on atleast 60 medals as the country will compete in four finals on the final day.
