The extent of death and destruction has emerged in the aftermath of Russian withdrawal from regions surrounding the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to redeploy to the country's east. Widespread killings of civilians have been reported, with some victims evidently been shot at close range.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the UN Security Council that those responsible should immediately be brought up on war crimes charges in front of a tribunal like the one set up at Nuremberg after World War II.
