The Bombay High Court said peaceful demonstrations are a fundamental right but noted that police must consider public inconvenience.
The court directed the Maharashtra government to respond to allegations that demonstrators protesting against CEC Gyanesh Kumar were detained for a day and allegedly placed under house arrest.
The bench also heard objections from Shivaji Park residents over protests at the location and listed the matter for further hearing on November 19.
