The Jamui harassment case has left women across Bihar reflecting on their own fears around safety, mobility and public spaces.
Several women told Outlook that such incidents can trigger greater family restrictions, social scrutiny and pressure on girls to change how they dress, travel or spend time outside home.
They said safety should come through better policing, safer public spaces and accountability, not by limiting women’s education, work, movement or independence.
