Bihar Shocker: Minor Boy, Girl Harassed By Group In Jamui, Video Sparks Outrage

A minor boy and girl were allegedly molested and harassed by a group of men in Bihar’s Jamui on Saturday evening while they were returning from a coaching class. The men stopped their scooter, forced them to get off and chased them when they tried to flee, reported News18.

An FIR has been filed against seven people and two accused have been detained in connection with the case. Videos of the incident have surfaced online, showing the students being repeatedly harassed.

Viral Video Details

The video shows the accused asking the students whether their families knew they were together. “Ghar mein sabko pata hai (Everyone in our families know)."

In another part of the footage, one of the accused is seen slapping the boy and asking him to call his family and let him speak to them. The girl is also heard pleading, “Humein jaane dijiye. Ab kabhi nahin aayenge yahan (Please let us go. We will never come back here).” The harassment continued despite their pleas.

How The Incident Unfolded

The two had gone to Madwa Pahad, a hill destination in the city. While returning, a group of men stopped their scooter and allegedly assaulted them, as per News18.

They tried to escape, but one of the accused chased them and allegedly sexually harassed the girl by grabbing her private parts. The group also filmed the incident and circulated the video online.

The harassment continued as the students tried to flee on the scooter. With the girl riding pillion, one of the men was seen touching her breast and pulling her by the hand. Despite her pleas, the group continued to harass the two before eventually letting them go.

Police Investigation Underway

Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident after the video surfaced online and began an investigation.

Vishwajeet Dayal, Superintendent of Police, Jamui, said the victims were identified after the video surfaced and their statements were recorded. Based on their accounts, police began an investigation and registered an FIR.

Dayal said the video went viral on Monday morning and was also received by the police. “Based on that video, we identified the victim and recorded her statement. It was revealed that the incident took place around 7 pm on the 19th, involving some youths from the village,” he added.

He added that six or seven people were visible in the video and that police had identified some of them.

A probe is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Dayal said efforts were on to trace the accused. More details are awaited.

Political Reaction

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reacted to the incident, describing the Jamui video as “deeply disturbing”. He condemned the alleged harassment of the two Class 10 students and questioned why the accused were not behind bars if the incident took place on September 19.

Gandhi called for everyone seen in the video to be identified and prosecuted under the POCSO Act. He also questioned the Bihar government over the safety of girls on public roads, asking why a girl was not safe at 7 pm.
