Two Including Bajrand Dal Member Arrested In Bulandshahr Cop's Killing, SIT To Probe Case

In connection with Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh's lynching case, Uttar Pradesh police have arrested two persons and detained four others, besides forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter.

According to a report in NDTV, the accused no 1 has been identified as Yogesh Raj, a member of the Bajrang Dal.

As many as 27 people have been named in the FIR, registered around 3 am, while cases have been lodged against 50 to 60 unidentified people, they said.

Sharing details of the investigation and arrests made in the case, ADG Prashant Kumar told ANI, "We have registered an FIR in case of inspector Subodh Kumar's death. The two named accused have been arrested. Attempts are ongoing to arrest others. "

He further added that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the case.

"A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under IG Range Meerut. Different aspects such as how did this incident occur, why the mob got violent, how many people were there with the inspector and did anyone flee from the spot. SIT will inquire about all these thing and action will be taken if there is any laxity," Kumar said.

ADG Kumar also asserted that some seven to eight people have been named in the FIR.

'Further action will be taken as per the emerging details,' he said.

The case

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, a police inspector, who had probed the Akhlaq lynching case initially, and a 20-year-old youth died of gunshot injuries on Monday as a rampaging mob protesting alleged illegal cow slaughter torched a police post in Bulandshahr and clashed with cops, officials said.

Additional Director General (Meerut zone) Prashant Kumar said the protestors from Mahaw village and nearby areas pelted stones on police and indulged in arson, setting ablaze several vehicles and Chingarwathi Police Chowki, after some body parts of cows were found in a jungle near the village, prompting the police to open fire.

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who was posted at Siana Police Station, suffered a gunshot injury in addition to wounds from hard and blunt objects, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said, citing the post-mortem report.
