A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA in Gujarat was seen spitting in a government-run community kitchen, a video of which has gone viral on social media. Surrounded by people, the Rajkot MLA, Arvind Raiyani in a white shirt, could be seen pulling down his mask and spitting in the kitchen.
The MLA later paid a fine of Rs 500.
"I spat in my property and not on government premises or road. However, I accept my mistake and I have paid Rs 500 as fine," the MLA said.
The Home Ministry in its guidelines for extended lockdown had made spitting in public places punishable with fine as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
