The death toll in communal violence in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law rose to 34 on Thursday following three days of communal violence which ripped through areas of Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Bhajanpura, and other adjoining areas.
According to GTB Hospital authorities, the number of injured now stands at 189, however, the situation at the hospital "seems to be settling".
Communal violence over the amended citizenship law had escalated in northeast Delhi on Tuesday as police struggled to check the rioters who ran amok on streets, burning and looting shops, pelting stones and thrashing people.

3:43PM: An armed battalion of Delhi Police, comprising around 1,000 personnel, is being deployed in violence-hit areas of Delhi while inter-state borders are being closely monitored, say officials. This was conveyed at a high-level meeting convened by the Home Minister.
