Noted Malayalam novelist and poet Punathil Kunjabdulla passed away in Kozhikode on Friday. He was 77. 

Kanjabdulla was a doctor by profession but has won awards for his genius as a modernist in Malayalam literature. 

He won the Sahithya Academy Award (Malayalam) in 1980 for his novel Smarakasilakal (Memorial Stones) and the Kerala Sahithya Akademi award for Malamukalile Abdulla (1980).
