A bustling hill station and the state capital of Sikkim, this city is blessed with many places to see. In 1840, Gangtok became a pilgrimage centre, courtesy of the construction of the Enchey monastery. In the 19th century, it became a major stopover destination for traders between Tibet and British India. Post India's independence, Sikkim became a nation-state with Gangtok as its capital.
