Premier League 2022-23: Aston Villa Beat Manchester United 3-1 In Unai Emery’s First Game As Villa Boss - In Pics

Unai Emery took charge of Aston Villa after Steven Gerrard was sacked almost three weeks ago. In his first game as Villa manager, his side ended a 27 year wait for Aston Villa to win against Manchester United at Villa Park. The Villians put three past David De Gea as a toothless Manchester United attack struggled to match Villa’s clinical attacks. Leon Bailey opened the scoring for the hosts in the 7th minute. Within just five minutes, Villa doubled their lead, this time through a scrumptious free kick from Lucas Digne. The Frenchman struck an inch-perfect free kick from just outside the penalty area, sending the ball into the near post with De Gea failing to get a hand over it. Just at the brink of halftime, the Red Devils got one goal back, though through luck, as Jacob Ramsey deflected the ball in the Villa net, resulting in an own goal. The two goal cushion was restored in the 48th minute, as Ramsey blasted the ball in the back of the net from an Ollie Watkins cut back. The win takes Villa to 15 points in 14 games.
