Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap Announce Separation: 'We're Choosing Peace'

Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap have decided to end their marriage with mutual consent. The two badminton stars who had been married for almost seven years now announced their separation via social media and said that they chose "peace, growth, and healing."

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Saina who is an Olympic bronze medallist, revealed this personal update which came as a shock to many in the badminton world.

“Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We're choosing peace, growth, and healing – for ourselves and each other," Saina, a two-time Commonwealth Games champion, wrote.

"I'm grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time," the former top-ranked women's player added in her Instagram post.

Saina and Kashyap married each other in December 2018.

The duo, which is among the most accomplished in Indian badminton scene, trained together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad from their early days.

Saina is regarded as one of India's greatest shuttlers and her bronze at the London Olympics was a testament to her elite skills. Kashyap was among the top male players of his time. He broke into the world top 10 and became a Commonwealth gold medallist in 2014.
