Punjab Kings produced a complete performance to hand Royal Challengers Bangalore a 54-run defeat in match 60 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Friday. The result means that Mayank Agarwal's Kings are sixth in the table with 12 points from 12 matches (NRR +0.023). Faf du Plessis' RCB are fourth with 14 points from 13 matches (NRR -0.323). RCB face already-qualified Gujarat Titans on May 19 in their final league game. Punjab Kings meet Delhi Capitals on May 16 and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 22. Must-win games! Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl first. But RCB ran into an inspired PBKS opening pair of Jonny Bairstow (66 off 29 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (21 off 15). Then arrived Liam Livingstone, who started slowly but picked up to score 70 off 42. Result, a massive 209/9, which is four more than what RCB posted against PBKS in their previous meeting. For the record, that target was chased down by PBKS with an over to spare.
Royal Challengers Bangalore started the chase on the right note with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis scoring freely, then it became 40/3 in the 6th over. Glenn Maxwell (36 off 22) and Rajat Patidar (26 off 21) tried to revive the innings, but they got out in quick succession, leaving RCB at 104/5 in the 12th. RCB however played out the full 20 overs without troubling Punjab bowlers. Kagiso Rabada was once again the pick of the lot. He claimed 3 for 21.
