West Indies registered the second-lowest total in Test cricket history during the Third Test match against Australia in Jamaica on Monday. The hosts were bowled out for 27, which was one short of New Zealand's 26 that came against England in 1955.

West Indies who were chasing 205 for victory, collapsed in 14.3 overs as the hosts recorded the worst-ever score in a day-night Test as they lost by 176 runs on Monday.

Mitchell Starc, who was playing his 100th Test, ran through the West Indies top-order in his first over and finished with six wickets in his kitty. Scott Boland registered a hat-trick, as the hosts had no answer to the Australian bowling.

Lowest totals in Test history

1) New Zealand - 26 vs England, 1955

2) West Indies - 27 vs Australia, 2025

3) South Africa - 30 vs England, 1896

4) South Africa - 30 vs England, 1924

5) South Africa - 35 vs England, 1899

As Starc ripped through the West Indies batting, the 35-year-old also joined the 400-wicket club in his 100th Test, whereas Boland became the 10th Aussie bowler to take a hat-trick in the red-ball arena.

WI skipper Roston Chase stated that the recurring batting failures was a hard pill to swallow.

"Heartbreaking to be in a position like this. It has been recurring for the whole series, makes it all the more disappointing. It is quite easy to assess - the bowlers kept us in all along, batters never really clicked," he said.

Starc, on the other hand, delivered the fastest five-wicket haul in Test history by taking the wickets in first 15 deliveries of the West Indies second innings. The tall left-arm paceman took a wicket with the first ball of the West Indies’ second innings and three wickets in that first over — a triple-wicket maiden.

Australia’s bowlers had dominated the series after winning the first two Tests — by 159 runs in Barbados then by 133 runs in Grenada — to sweep the Frank Worrell Trophy.
