Riyan Parag: I actually told my boys I was going to try and lose the toss because I was very confused. And I did that pretty well. So I'm happy with either bowling or batting. I feel batting first, we played a few domestic games here and it slowed down a little on the later half. So hopefully we get a start back. I think we batted pretty well. Even last game against Kolkata, I think we made a few miscalculations in the middle overs. But I feel the way Jaiswal and Vaibhav batted with the wickets that they had, I think that was brilliant. Like I said, a few errors here and there. The message is that we need to play 40 overs of good cricket. Only then can we expect a win. Hopefully do that tonight. Same team.

Rishabh Pant: We are looking to bowl first. You know we have been playing in this conditions and still figuring out. Last few games have been challenging and as players we are looking to find ways. Just a subtle change. We have two changes. He is the player, who has shown so much trust.

We are underway as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi open the innings, with Jaiswal on strike, and Mohammed Shami charging in with the new ball to start the attack, early intent from both sides and you can already feel the tension building right from ball one.

Oh, that’s a loose one from Mohammed Shami and Yashasvi Jaiswal wastes no time making him pay. Shami sprays it down the leg side, Jaiswal just gets some bat on it, and that’s all it needed, it races away past the fielder’s dive at fine leg for FOUR. Shami won’t like that at all, and Jaiswal is off the mark in style.

Akif Javed comes in, angles it away outside off and Sahibzada Farhan goes for the big swipe across the line, doesn’t quite get it clean, but oh, that’s flown off the leading edge and raced away past third man for FOUR. Not the way he planned it, but it counts all the same, and the fielding side will feel that one slipped through the hands of control.

Shami finally gets his man, and it’s Yashasvi Jaiswal who has to go after a lively start. He chases one he probably shouldn’t have, and Rishabh Pant does the rest behind the stumps, safe hands, sharp take, and Jaiswal walks back after a quickfire 22 off 12 with four boundaries.

Shami lets out that big release of emotion, he knew he had to hang in there, and it’s paid off.

Two in two for Shami and he is suddenly running through the batting line-up here. That one was a proper beauty, moving away just enough to leave Dhruv Jurel stranded as he pokes and only manages an edge through to Rishabh Pant behind the stumps, who makes no mistake.

Jurel had no real answer to that delivery at all. RR slip to 32 for 2 in 3 overs, and the momentum has completely flipped in a matter of minutes.

LSG are not letting RR breathe at all. Mohsin Khan digs it in and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi goes for the shot, but it’s not off the middle and this time he pays the price.

Digvesh Singh Rathi charges back, tracks it all the way in the air as it swirls, and then settles under it with a superb running catch, making a difficult moment look unbelievably calm. Sooryavanshi will be disappointed with that choice of shot, gone for 8 off 11 with two boundaries, and RR are suddenly under real pressure again.

Across their first six games this season, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel have carried Rajasthan Royals’ batting almost single-handedly, combining for a massive 68.3 percent of the team’s runs, a clear reminder of just how dependent RR have been on this trio at the top and in the middle.

Mohsin Khan comes in and Riyan Parag just explodes on it. That looks like a straightforward catch for mid-on for a split second, but oh no, Parag gets just enough elevation and timing.

It’s short and wide outside off, and he absolutely flat-bats the pull in front of square. Not quite the cleanest strike, but it has enough on it to sail away for FOUR, and that will ease a bit of pressure for RR in the middle.

Mayank Yadav goes full and straight into the pads, and Riyan Parag just can’t resist that gift. He gets into position quickly, whips it away in the air, and oh, that’s sailing high and handsome over deep square leg for SIX.

Clean, confident, and exactly the kind of release RR needed at the end of the over, punishing anything even slightly off from Mayank.

Digvesh Singh Rathi tosses it up slower in the air and Riyan Parag works it into the on-side, instantly calling for two. Markram charges in from long-on, covers serious ground to his right, and pulls off a stunning one-handed pickup before firing in a direct hit at the bowler’s end.

For a moment, there is chaos as everyone turns to the umpire, wondering if Hetmyer has made it back in time. The review is on, tension everywhere, and after the check he is just about safe, surviving a nervy run-out scare.

Wicket, and RR are sinking deeper here. Prince Yadav serves it right in the slot, exactly what Riyan Parag would have wanted, but he just can’t put it away. He goes for the big helicopter shot, stands tall, swings hard, but only manages the toe end of the bat. It balloons tamely towards long-on where Nicholas Pooran settles under it safely and completes the catch.

Parag’s frustration is clear as he walks back after a scratchy 20 off 19 with a couple of boundaries and a six, and Pooran celebrates with a quick toss of the ball in the air. RR lose another, and the pressure is piling up fast.

Mayank Yadav hits 146.8 kph and still it’s not enough to stop Shimron Hetmyer. Dug right into the slot outside off, Hetmyer shuffles, makes room and just lofts it over mid-off like it’s nothing. It’s not even a full swing, but he gets enough bat on it and that sails away for four.

That’s clean, confident hitting under pressure and RR will take every bit of that release.

We’ve got a brief stoppage here as Rishabh Pant is receiving some medical attention after taking an awkward throw straight to the face while trying to collect it. It caught him right on the nose, which looked painful in the moment, but he’s back on his feet now and appears to be fine. Play is set to resume with the next delivery.

Digvesh Singh Rathi drops it short outside off and Donovan Ferreira goes after it with the cut, but it never really sits up for him. He mistimes it a bit and it rolls away down to long-off for just a single. Not the cleanest connection, and Rathi will feel he’s kept things fairly tight there.

Mohammed Shami bangs it into the pads and Donovan Ferreira just clips it straight towards deep backward square leg, but what follows is absolute chaos. Mayank Yadav misjudges it completely, runs in when he should have held his ground, and the ball just keeps sailing over him.

Shami is already in disbelief with his hands on his head as the misfield turns a routine stop into four. Ferreira won’t care how it came, and LSG will feel that one slipping right through their fingers.

Prince Yadav keeps it slow, 117.1 kph and short outside off, and Donovan Ferreira just can’t resist the slash. He goes hard at it but only manages a thick top edge that lobs tamely towards third man.

Mohsin Khan settles under it and completes the catch, though there’s a brief moment of uncertainty as the umpires check the boundary line.

All clean in the end, Mohsin had just enough awareness to stay inside the rope, and Ferreira has to walk back after a scratchy 20 off 19 with two boundaries.

Digvesh Singh Rathi floats in a googly at 91.6 kph, full and wide outside off, and Shubham Dubey just throws his bat at it. It takes a thick outside edge and flies over backward point, racing away with enough legs to reach the fence for four. Not the cleanest strike, but Dubey will happily take those bonus runs.

Ravindra Jadeja steps up right at the end and gives Rajasthan Royals something to work with here. A couple of well-timed boundaries ease the pressure before he finishes in style, launching one over for six to push them past the 150 mark and set a 160-run target. It’s been a fighting effort from Jadeja, holding things together when wickets kept falling, and RR close on 159 for 6 in their 20 overs with a total that keeps them in the game.

Chase time, and here come Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni with a target of 160 in front of them. Marsh takes strike, all set to lead the charge, while Jofra Archer has the new ball in hand, steaming in to kick things off. There’s that familiar buzz again, a fresh battle, and you can sense this could get lively right from the first over.

Oh no, that’s chaos and RR get a gift early. Jofra Archer fires in a sharp in-seamer at 147.5 kph, drifting into the pads, and Ayush Badoni misses the glance as it rolls gently towards square leg.

There was never a run there, but both batters take off for a moment of panic. Mitchell Marsh quickly pulls up and sends Badoni back, but it’s already too late. Ravi Singh charges in, nails a direct hit at the keeper’s end, and Badoni is caught miles short.

A mix-up, a costly one, and LSG lose a wicket without even a shot being played.

Nandre Burger strikes and Rishabh Pant has to go without making an impact. After a couple of steps down the track earlier, Pant tries to switch it up, drops to one knee and swings hard across the line, but it’s a faint edge at best.

The ball carries comfortably to Dhruv Jurel behind the stumps, and he makes no mistake. Burger is up and celebrating as Pant walks back for a duck, and suddenly LSG are rocked early in the chase.

Jofra Archer keeps the squeeze on and LSG are in real trouble now. He hits that hard length at 147 kph, gets it to climb sharply, and Aiden Markram can only fend at it while standing tall. It takes the edge and flies through to Dhruv Jurel, who makes no mistake behind the stumps. Another duck, the third one already, and LSG just cannot catch a breath in this chase.

Jofra Archer charges in at 147 kph, fuller than a good length, and Nicholas Pooran responds with calm, compact defence. He gets right forward and just dead-bats it straight to mid-off, no risk taken at all. Archer keeps the pressure on, but Pooran has shut that one down nicely.

Brijesh Sharma comes in and Nicholas Pooran just pounces on it. Worked away neatly towards backward square leg, and it races away into the fence for FOUR. No fuss, no drama, just pure timing as Pooran finds the gap with ease.

Ravi Bishnoi drifts one down the leg side and Himmat Singh just lets it pass, nothing much to do there. The umpire stretches the arms and signals wide, a small but handy extra for the batting side as Bishnoi looks to tighten things up again.

Big over in the context of the game, 10 runs and a crucial wicket. Ravi Bishnoi strikes to remove Himmat Singh with a quicker, straighter delivery that crashes into the stumps, putting LSG under serious pressure at 99-5.

Massive moment in the game. LSG lose Mitchell Marsh right after he brings up his fifty with a six. Burger starts the over with a slower short ball that Marsh smashes over long-off to reach his first fifty of the season, follows it with another slower delivery that Marsh mistimes for no run, and then gets the big breakthrough, full and wide, Marsh goes for the loft but gets it off the bottom of the bat, and Riyan Parag takes a superb running catch at extra-cover. Huge wicket, and this should seal the game for RR.

That should be it, LSG’s hopes all but over now. Brijesh Sharma bangs it in short and rushes Mukul Choudhary completely, who goes for the pull but miscues it badly. The ball lobs towards extra-cover where Riyan Parag charges in and takes a sharp diving catch. Another wicket falls, and with that, the last bit of resistance fades away, RR firmly in control and closing in on victory.

Another superb over for RR, just 3 runs and two wickets, completely shutting the door on LSG. Brijesh Sharma mixes his pace brilliantly, first cleaning up Mohammed Shami with a fast, full delivery that crashes into leg-stump, and then keeps it tight with slower balls that the batters fail to read. Mayank Yadav struggles to make contact, while Digvesh Rathi manages just a single. LSG now 114-8 and well and truly out of the contest.

That’s the end of the game, RR wrap it up in style, winning by 40 runs. Jofra Archer finishes with a superb over, conceding just 5 runs and picking up two wickets. He first removes Mayank Yadav with a sharp delivery that results in a brilliant one-handed catch by Dhruv Jurel, and then cleans up Mohsin Khan with a full, fast ball that crashes into middle-stump. A boundary in between is the only release for LSG, but Archer’s pace and precision prove too much as the innings folds at 119. Dominant finish from RR.
