Purely speaking basis recent results, Gujarat have the momentum with two straight wins, while Punjab are coming off their first loss of the season. But the table-toppers would be considered favourites on paper considering all factors, and the fact that they are yet to face defeat in an away game in IPL 2026.
Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Arya takes strike as Siraj steams in with the new ball. Prabhsimran waits at the other end, early swing on offer, testing start for PBKS
Siraj breathes fire early. What a start from him. He rips through the top order, removing Priyansh Arya with a sharp short ball that’s brilliantly caught by Nishant Sindhu in the deep, and then gets Cooper Connolly first ball with a peach that nips in and takes the inside edge through to Buttler. Two wickets in three balls and PBKS are rocked early. Shreyas Iyer gets off the mark with a crisp boundary, but this is a dream opening over for GT.
Just 8 runs from the over, but PBKS will take it after that shaky start. Shreyas Iyer is settling in at 15 off 15, holding the innings together, while Prabhsimran Singh matches him with 15 off 12, finding a couple of boundaries to ease pressure. GT keeping it tight overall, but PBKS slowly rebuilding.
PBKS 35/2 (5)
What an over from Kagiso Rabada, pure dominance! He removes Prabhsimran Singh with a sharp 152kph delivery and then completely ties down Nehal Wadhera with pace and movement. A rare wicket-maiden in T20s, and PBKS are in deep trouble now after losing their third wicket. GT firmly on top with relentless pressure building.
GT tightening the screws as Jason Holder joins the party and strikes immediately, removing Nehal Wadhera with a sharp delivery that takes the outside edge. Jos Buttler pulls off a stunning diving catch behind the stumps to complete the dismissal. Just 4 runs and another wicket, PBKS are slipping deeper into trouble as GT dominate with the ball.
Jason Holder delivers a massive blow, knocking over Shreyas Iyer with a sharp back-of-length delivery that forces an inside edge onto the stumps. That’s the fifth wicket down, and PBKS are in serious trouble now. Just 2 runs and a wicket in the over, with GT completely dominating proceedings through disciplined bowling and relentless pressure.
Massive over, 27 runs and PBKS are suddenly alive. Suryansh Shedge goes berserk, racing to 48 off just 22 with clean hitting all around, while Stoinis joins in to keep the pressure on. Three sixes and two fours in the over as Suthar is taken apart. From deep trouble to a fighting position, PBKS have flipped the momentum in style.
Kagiso Rabada returns and delivers the breakthrough GT needed, dismissing Suryansh Shedge for a brilliant 57. It’s a soft end to a counterattacking knock—cramped for room, he edges it through to Buttler behind the stumps. The crucial partnership is broken just as PBKS were building momentum, and GT regain full control heading into the death overs.
Jason Holder is on fire. He cleans up Xavier Bartlett first ball with a beauty that nips in and crashes into the stumps, bringing up his fourth wicket and putting himself on a hat-trick. PBKS are falling apart again after a brief fightback, and although Vyshak survives the hat-trick ball, the damage is done. Just 7 runs and two wickets in the over, GT firmly in control heading into the final over.
A productive final over for PBKS as they add 14 runs, thanks to Marco Jansen’s quick cameo of 20 off 11. He takes on Rashid Khan with a six and a four before falling on the penultimate ball, well caught low by Shubman Gill at extra cover. Arshdeep chips in with a single to close things out. After early collapse and middle-order wobble, PBKS finish with a competitive 163 on the board.
Gujarat Titans once again showcased their bowling strength, restricting PBKS to 163 after another disciplined performance from their pace unit. Siraj struck twice in the opening over to rock Punjab early, while Rabada and Holder kept chipping in with crucial wickets to leave them struggling. Just when things looked done, Shedge and Stoinis launched a brilliant counterattack, adding 79 runs and shifting momentum, with Shedge’s rapid fifty being the highlight. However, Rabada broke the stand at the right time and Holder cleaned up the lower order with a four-wicket haul. With the pitch offering assistance to seamers, this total feels competitive, but chaseable if approached well.
Sudharsan on strike as Bartlett charges in with the new ball, good carry expected early. Gill watches from the non-striker’s end, GT looking to get off to a steady start in the chase.
Early setback despite steady start. Arshdeep Singh provides the breakthrough, removing Shubman Gill with a full inswinger that forces a mistimed drive straight to point. A big wicket given Gill’s form. Apart from that, a controlled over with just 6 runs conceded. Sai Sudharsan looks positive at the top, while Buttler is settling in, but GT will need to rebuild carefully after losing their skipper early.
In not-so-good news for Chennai Super Kings, their bowling all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh has been ruled out of IPL 2026 with a fracture to the right foot sustained during the 'El Clasico' game against Mumbai Indians in Chennai on Saturday. The 28-year-old had made a strong debut during the CSK vs MI match, completing a spectacular catch to send back Will Jacks and then dismissing Suryakumar Yadav. Unfortunately, his campaign ends after just one outing.
Jos Buttler builds a 53-run stand with Sai Sudharsan before miscuing impact sub Vijaykumar Vyshak to Shreyas Iyer at mid-off. Debutant Nishant Sindhu then strokes an 11-ball 15 before departing to Stoinis. Sudharsan holds the key in this chase now for Gujarat, with Washington Sundar joining him in the middle.
Big breakthrough for PBKS. Vijaykumar Vyshak strikes at a crucial moment, removing Sai Sudharsan for a well-made 57. The short ball does the trick as Sudharsan miscues the pull, and Bartlett takes a calm catch in the deep. Just when GT looked to be pulling away, PBKS hit back. With Tewatia now at the crease and the game entering the death overs, the chase is finely poised.
Game still alive. Marco Jansen delivers a crucial blow, removing Rahul Tewatia just when GT looked to be cruising. Tewatia nails the sweep but hits it straight to deep square leg, perfectly picked out. 12 runs came off the over with Sundar keeping things ticking, but that wicket keeps PBKS in the contest heading into the final overs.
Big moment, game in the balance. Arshdeep Singh strikes at a crucial time, removing Jason Holder thanks to a stunning catch from Cooper Connolly in the deep. Holder tried to go big under pressure but picked out the fielder, who held his nerve brilliantly. Just 6 runs and a wicket in the over, and with only a few needed now, this game is still wide open heading into the final over.
Washington Sundar finishes it off with nerves of steel, scooping a full toss from Stoinis over deep backward square for six to seal a 4-wicket win with a ball to spare. It wasn’t perfectly struck, but he got enough on it to clear the ropes. Gujarat Titans hold their composure in a tense finish and get over the line in dramatic fashion.
That was a proper nail-biter, with Gujarat Titans holding their nerve to make it three wins in a row. The chase kept swinging both ways as PBKS struck at regular intervals, never allowing GT to run away with it. After Gill’s early dismissal, Sudharsan and Buttler steadied things with a crucial partnership, but the game stayed finely balanced even after Sudharsan’s fifty.
With around 40 needed, the pressure was right on, but Washington Sundar played a composed hand, picking his moments and keeping the chase under control. PBKS kept fighting till the very end, but Sundar and Arshad Khan held their composure in the final over, sealing the win with a six and a ball to spare. A tough loss for PBKS, but a clinical finish from GT when it mattered most.
Thank you for joining!
