France has reported its first known human case of Shamonda virus after a severely immunocompromised patient died in early October.
Authorities suspect the patient contracted the virus through a midge bite in eastern France, with neurological complications considered likely linked to the infection.
The ECDC is investigating the case, while French officials say there is currently no identified risk to the general public.
