Coronavirus: UK Registers Record 786 deaths In 24 Hours; 100 New Cases Detected In Mumbai

The number of Coronavirus positive cases in India has shown a rapid surge for the last few days, taking the tally over 4,400.

Coronavirus: UK Registers Record 786 deaths In 24 Hours; 100 New Cases Detected In Mumbai

The number of Coronavirus positive cases in India has shown a rapid surge for the last few days, taking the tally over 4,400. At least 1,445 among them have been found linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi.

The situation is, however, showing an improvement in China where no new domestically transmitted cases were reported in last 24 hours. The situation is also showing signs of improvement in Italy, Iran and the US.

Here are all the developments from today:

9:30 PM: Ten more COVID-19 cases reported in Gujarat; count climbs to 175, says official.

9:00 PM: UK registers daily record of 786 coronavirus deaths, reports AFP. 

7:52 PM: The total number of COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu has surged to 690 after 69 new cases were reported on Tuesday. Beela Rajesh, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary said 63 out of 69 people who tested positive today attended a single event.

7:30 PM: At least 100 new COVID-19 cases detected in Mumbai; tally 590.

7:10 PM: 52-year-old man dies due to COVID-19 in Gujarat, taking toll in state to 13, says an official.

6:44PM: Nine people tested positive for coronavirus in Kerala today, taking the total number of active cases to 263.

6:36PM:  A 64-year old woman died of COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday taking the toll due to the disease to seven in the state while 69 more people tested positive as the tally rose to 690.

6:03PM: All passengers who booked tickets on IRCTC-run 3 trains will get full refund, says IRCTC after cancelling bookings till Apr 30. 

4:46PM: Home Minister Amit Shah directs officials to take appropriate steps, coordinate with state govts to prevent hoarding and black marketing.

2:18PM: An Indian-origin cardiac surgeon who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus has died at a hospital in Cardiff in the UK, where a number of medics have lost their lives on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2:17PM: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday a five-point action plan to contain the spread of coronavirus in the national capital and said one lakh random rapid COVID-19 tests will be conducted in the city's hotspot areas.

2:16PM: Taking measures to safeguard its workers against coronavirus, the AIIMS administration has decided to provide N95 masks to all its healthcare workers involved in direct patient care and has asked them to reuse the masks at least four times after disinfecting them.

11:46PM: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi says essential medicines should be made available to Indians first.

11:42PM: 19 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Gujarat.  State tally for positive coronavirus cases now jumps to 165: Official.

11:37PM: 23 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra. Total cases in the state now climb to 891: Official.

11:34PM: 12 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Bhopal, taking the total tally in Madhya Pradesh to 268: Official.

10:58PM: The Karnataka Government has indicated that it's too early to take a call now on lifting the nation-wide lockdown but said it's in favour of its extension in COVID-19 hotspots in the country by at least an additional two weeks.

10:22PM: China has reported no new deaths from coronavirus for the first time since it started publishing figures in January but the number of imported infections increased to 983 with 32 new confirmed cases, health officials said.   

10:13PM: According to worldometer, the death toll in India has now risen to 136. 

9:30 AM: COVID-19 death toll rises to 114 while the number of cases climbs to 4,421, said the Health Ministry.

9:04 AM: The US recorded 1,150 Coronavirus deaths in 24 hours, AFP news agency said.

8:59 AM: The United Nations Security Council will hold a closed session on Thursday to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time the powerful UN organ is holding a meeting on coronavirus that has killed more than 74,000 people and infected over 1.3 million globally.

8:53 AM: As many as 1,182 people have been arrested and 504 cases registered so far in Assam for not following the lockdown restrictions imposed in view of the coronavirus outbreak, an official said.

8:49 AM: The death toll in the US from the coronavirus crossed the 10,000-mark on Monday as the country entered the most difficult phase during this pandemic with officials stating that there are encouraging signs in the fight against the dreaded disease mainly due to the aggressive implementation of the mitigation measures.

8:45 AM: Chinese health authorities said on Tuesday that no new domestically transmitted cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported on the mainland in the previous day.
