Coronavirus Highlights Updates:Punjab Records 105 New Cases; India Tally Rises To 33,610

The United States recorded 2,502 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the latest real-time tally on Wednesday reported by Johns Hopkins University.

The number of Coronavirus cases in India has risen to 33,610 while another 67 deaths have taken the total death toll in the country to 1,074, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday.

Recovery rate for Covid-19 patients in India also increased from around 13% to 25% in the last 14 days, the Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, as 35 of the 50 American states affected geared up to re-open its economy, the nation recorded 2,502 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the latest real-time tally reported by Johns Hopkins University.

After two days of a relative easing in the toll on Sunday and Monday, the numbers have spiked again the past two days.

6:37 PM: With 1,823 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours and 67 deaths, India's total count of coronavirus cases has gone up to 33,610, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

6:33 PM: 105 cases of COVID19 have been reported in Punjab today, taking the total number of cases to 480 out of which 356 cases are active. 104 patients have been cured of the infection while 20 other lost their lives: Punjab Health Department

6:13PM: One more person tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the district to 138, officials said.

On the brighter side, seven patients were discharged from hospitals following their treatment for COVID-19, even as the number of active cases came down to 50.

5:38PM: Hitting out at both the central and state governments, the Congress in Karnataka has alleged that both have not come to the rescue of people, especially farmers, who were at the receiving end due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

4:06PM: A 34-year-old woman has tested positive for coronavirus in Gorakhpur, a senior health official has said.

This is the second case in the district after a 50 year-old-man was found positive for the virus, Chief Medical Officer Srikant Tiwari said.

3:16PM: Seventy-one new COVID-19 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the state tally to 1,403, according to the state health department.

2:25 PM:  Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: "Delhi govt is making arrangements to soon bring Del students back home from Kota."

1:40 PM:  The Supreme Court has refused to pass any direction on changing treatment guidelines for seriously ill COVID-19 patients who are receiving a combination of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and antibiotic azithromycin (AZM) saying that it is not an expert on the matter.

1:00 PM: Varanasi will be under complete lockdown till May 3.

"There will be complete lockdown in the limits of Varanasi municipal corporation till May 3. Home delivery to be done for people in case they need anything. People will be allowed to move out of the limits only on health and medical grounds," says DM Varanasi, Kaushal Raj Sharma.

12:10 PM: The number of coronavirus cases in Nashik district of Maharashtra has gone up to 276 as 71 more people have tested positive for the disease, an official from the district administration said.  Most of the new cases are from the district's Malegaon town.

12:00 PM: Treatment with antiviral drug remdesivir may not significantly speed up recovery from COVID-19 in critically ill hospitalised patients compared to placebo, according to the first randomised trial of its kind published in The Lancet journal.

9:25 AM: Twenty-nine more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Agra, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the district to 433, said District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh.

Fourteen people have died due to the virus in the district while 74 patients have recovered.
