Haryana BJP leader on Friday threatened West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for supporting Bollywood film Padmavati by reminding her what happened with Shurpnakha.
"Rakshasi pravriti ki jo mahilaayein hoti hain, jaise Shurpnakha thi. Shurpnakaha ka ilaaj Lakshman ne naak kaat kar kiya tha, Mamata Ji is baat ko na bhulein (Women from the cult of demons, like Shurpnakha. Lakshman chopped off Shurpnakha's nose to teach her a lesson. Mamata ji should not forget that)," he said.
Amid intensifying protests against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, Mamata Banerjee said she would welcome director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team to the state and make special arrangements for the film's premiere and release.

"If they (Bhansali and producer) cannot release Padmavati in any other state, we will make special arrangements for it in our state. Bengal will be very happy and Bengal will be proud to do that. We will take care of it. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his Padmavati team are welcome in our state."
She had earlier called the controversy around the movie, a 'calculated plan of a political party to destroy the freedom to express ourselves.'
Padmavati, erstwhile scheduled to be released on December 1, has been postponed indefinitely. States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan have halted the release of the film lest it be modified to meet the Rajputs' demands and relieve them of apprehensions.

The film which is based on the story of a Rajput queen, is mired in controversy with right-wing groups across the country claiming it distorts history.
