On Thursday, DYFI workers laid siege to  Niraamaya Retreats at Kumarakom in Kerala and smashed cottages alleging that the resort encroached into government land and violated Kerala Paddy and Wetland Conservation Act.

A similar charge had caused Kerala’s Transport Minister Thomas Chandy his chair after probe report said the Minister’s resort had encroached into paddy land, causing embarasment to Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Incidentally it was Asianet News, headed by Rajiv Chandrasekhar, that exposed Chandy’s encroachment.

The CPI(M)-led Kumarakom panchayat, which levelled the allegation of encraochment, and the revenue minister whose department probed the allegation, are yet to release a statement  on the allegation.

Independent MP Chandrasekhar has been part of the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, which is at loggerheads with the CPI(M)-led ruling regime in Kerala. He is also the largest investor in Republic news channel.

"I hv been sayng that the Sun wll soon set on Left’s politics of violence, intimidatn n corrption in #Kerala ! Political frustratn makes people do stupid things @CMOKerala @vijayanpinarayi (sic)," he tweeted today.

He also said that the ruling Left in the state believes that its living in a lawless land and that Kerala is under "goonda raj". "They will soon learn and experience the power of those who fight using the law," he said.

Calling the attack a "doomed to fail plan", in a firm message to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, he said: "If you are hoping to intimidate me with your goons - this is a doomed to fail plan! I am steadfast in my determination to rid Kerala of your type of violent politics!" he said.
