In yet another Shraddha Walkar-like gruesome murder, a 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his aunt and chopping up her body into 10 pieces before dumping them in a remote area in Rajasthan's Jaipur, NDTV reported on Sunday.

Anuj Sharma, who lived in Jaipur's Vidhyadhar Nagar with his father, sister and his aunt Saroj - who had been staying with them after her husband's death, murdered Saroj on December 11 after a heated argument.

Killed his aunt in a fit of rage

When Anuj wanted to go to Delhi for an event, Saroj asked him to stay back and in a fit of rage, he struck her head using a hammer while she was in the kitchen, police told NDTV. Anuj then used a marble cutter to chop his aunt's body in 10 pieces and disposed them off in a remote area along the Jaipur-Sikar Highway.

Anuj's father and sister had gone to Indore and he and his aunt were alone at home on December 11. Arun's mother had died last year of COVID-19.

Killer 'intelligent, has psychopathic tendencies'

Initially, Anuj tried to mislead the police. He filed a missing complaint for his aunt himself and even started looking for her along with other relatives. But his misleading statements to the police aroused suspicions and upon being confronted, he confessed to murdering his aunt.

"The killer is intelligent and educated. He appears to have psychopathic tendencies. The police suspected him as he filed a missing complaint, but CCTV footage did not show the aunt leaving the house, in fact, the CCTV showed him carrying bucket and a suitcase out of the house," Anand Srivastav, Police Commissioner, Jaipur told NDTV.

Anuj used a suitcase and bucket to carry the bits and pieces of the corpse and CCTV footage confirmed the same during the investigations. "We also found blood stains in the kitchen," Mr Srivastav said.

Police officials added the man showed no remorse for killing her 64-year-old widowed aunt in a brutal manner and chopping up her body into 10 pieces. A case has been registered against Anuj for murder and destruction of evidence.

Shraddha Walkar murder case, similar incidents reported

Shraddha Walkar, a 27-year old call centre employee was strangled to death by her live in partner, Aaftab Poonawala (28) on May 18. Poonawala then cut her body into 35 pieces, stored them in a 300-litre fridge for months before disposing them off in Delhi's Mehrauli forest.

Poonawala is currently lodged in Tihar jail and investigation is underway.

Since the Shraddha murder case came to light, several such incidents have been reported. In East Delhi, a mother-son duo allegedly killed Anjan Das (45), and later chopped up the body in 22 parts

Similarly, in Hyderabad, a woman's body was found stuffed in a drum locked up in a house since over one year. Anuj Kumar's tale of a heinous murder is yet another instance that echoes the Shraddha murder plot.
