Having beaten Sri Lanka comprehensively in the T20 series, India asserted their dominance on Day 1 of the first Test in Mohali on Friday. Batting first, Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal gave India a free-flowing start reaching 50 in just 10 overs. Sri Lanka pegged back into the game with a couple of wickets before Virat Kohli, playing his 100th Test, and Hanuma Vihari stitched together a 90-run stand to steady the ship. The visitors once again returned to the game with the wickets of Kohli (45), Vihari (58) and Shreyas Iyer in quick successions. At a time when it looked 300 would be tough for India to get, Rishabh Pant played a blinder of an innings to put India in a strong position. He was however clean bowled by Suranga Lakmal for 96 in the final session of the day. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin will start for India on the second day. Dimuth Karunaratne (SL): It's a good wicket to bat on and we wanted to bat first as well. We have played 300 Tests but we never won in India. We are going in with three seamers and two spinners.
