Cash App, Square App outage: Businesses suffer losses

Cash App and Square App suffered an unexpected outage which resulted in stuck payments and incomplete transactions for the users. The DownDetector reported hundreds of users being affected by the outage

Square app and Cash app,  companies owned by Block recently went through an unexpected outage which brought inconvenience to users.
DueDue to the outage many small businesses which run their transactions heavily on these apps suffered losses and weren’t successful in fulfilling  orders of their customers. The company had its team working on a long-term solution to fix the problem and to avoid it later in the future. 

Outage was reported from both the platforms with some time difference on Thursday. The problem affected the users as they were unable to track their payments or check their account balance. 

The team was giving out regular updates on X regarding the app and made sure to keep their customers in the loop amidst the outage. Square, which is a quite popular app used amongst small business owners had sent out mails to their users addressing the issue and assuring them that they wont deal with any losses.

Downdetector had mentioned more than 5000 reports by users regarding their payment issues for Cash App and the number for Square App reports went upto 18,000. However, the apps are now back and running. Square has looked into the issue and has fixed the problem as they stated in a tweet, “We can confirm that Square payments processing services have been restored. Thank you for bearing with us as our teams got functionality back up and running.” 

Cash App has also identified its cause of outage and has its team working on the issue. Although it has warned its users that there still maybe some delay.

Cash App’s team posted  on X , saying, “Our services are mostly back online. We’re sorry if you haven’t been able to use parts of the app.”
