The Earthquake Brings More Displacement, Horrors To War-torn Syria
The 7.8-magnitute earthquake and its strong aftershocks are the latest tragedies to strike Syria that's already battered from over a decade of civil war and terror-related devastation. The Syrian Civil War, now in its 12th year, had already displaced half Syria's pre-war population before the earthquake. Now the earthquake has brought more displacement and homelessness. Over 23,000 people have been killed across Syria and Turkey by the earthquake.

Volunteers cook for Syrians at a shelter in Antakya, southeastern Turkey. The shelter, operated by Molham, a team of Syrian volunteers, was set up soon after the earthquake struck. It has offered temporary shelter, hot meals, and transportation out of the devastated city to hundreds of the thousands of Syrian refugees who fled years ago after war broke out in their hometown and now find themselves once again displaced and homeless.
