According to a recent report by Bloomberg, a new version of the hit sci-fi drama TV series – ‘The X-Files’ – is being developed. Ryan Coogler, the director of ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Creed’ has joined hands with Disney to reprise this show that featured Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

In an earlier conversation with CBC podcast, Chris Carter who had originally made the show confirmed that Ryan Coogler is working on the project. He said, “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.” This confirms that the new ‘X-Files’ will be a part of Disney.

Carter added that while the original show dealt with a “central conspiracy,” the newer version will be different from that. Not much is known about the cast of the upcoming series and whether Scully and Mulder will be starring in the show. Speaking to Comic Book TV, David Duchovny mentioned that he had not given this idea much thought. He added that ‘The X-Files’ means Gillian Anderson and Chris Carter for him.

On the other hand, Gillian Anderson in a conversation with Variety said that the idea is old and had an “unfortunate ending.” She mentioned that to have a new season of the show, the makers should get new writers on board to make it look fresh and progressive.

First aired in 1993, ‘The X-Files’ revolved around two FBI Special Agents who try to unravel the mysteries behind a paranormal phenomenon. The show ended in 2002 with nine seasons and 202 episodes. During its course, the show won multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Awards.
