Naomi Watts will be conferred the Donostia Award at the upcoming San Sebastian Film Festival.
Watts is hitting the festival rounds with The Housewife.

Two-time Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts will be bestowed the San Sebastián Film Festival’s prestigious Donostia Award during its 74th edition in September. She joins legendary German director Werner Herzog whose Donostia Award was announced early August. Watts will receive her Award on Saturday, Sept. 19 and screen her latest film, The Housewife, the directorial debut of Canadian Ben Shirinian.
“Watts combines independent films with big productions on both the big and the small screen,” the San Sebastián Film Festival said in a statement, calling her “one of her generation’s most talented and award-winning actresses. The Housewife is having its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival before heading to San Sebastian and Zurich. In the ’60s-set drama, based on a true-story, a young New York Times journalist, played by Tye Sheridan, hunts down a man he suspects of being a Nazi officer living secretly in Queens (Luke Evans). But when the reporter befriends the suspect’s elegant and enigmatic wife (Watts), the implications of his investigation become much more unsettling.

Watts landed Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s 21 Grams and J.A. Bayona’s The Impossible. She earned a first Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Babe Paley in Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. Watts broke out in David Lynch’s Mullholland Drive, where her performance is “ranked among the finest in contemporary cinema,” said the San Sebastián Festival. Watts came with Rodrigo García San Sebastián in 2009 to close the Official Selection out of competition with Mother & Child.
Just a couple of days after her San Sebastian honour in this year's edition, Watts will head to Zurich where she will receive the Golden Eye award that's particularly celebrating her performance in The Housewife. The San Sebastián Film Festival runs Sept. 18 to 26.
