It took just one session for Australia to prise out the remaining seven New Zealand wickets. The visitors, powered by an inspired Nathan Lyon, scythed through the Kiwi middle and lower batting order to dismiss them for 196 runs and register a thumping 172-run win on Day 4 of the first Test at the Basin Reserve. Lyon returned with figures of 27-8-65-6 in the second innings, and a 10-wicket match haul to boot.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez reprised their goal-scoring artistry of Barcelona FC days in the morning, netting two goals each as Inter Miami blanked Orlando City 5-0 in their Major League Soccer encounter. Earlier in the day, Indian triple jumper Praveen Chithravel finished a disappointing 11th in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Praveen could only manage a best jump of 16.45m in his third attempt, which was well short of the podium-topping effort of 17.53m by Burkina Faso's Hugues Fabrice Zango.

With that, the Indian campaign at the global athletics meet ended as Jeswin Aldrin had finished 13th with a 7.69m effort in the long jump event the previous night.

Tiger Woods has been selected to receive the Bob Jones Award, the highest honour from the United States Golf Association (USGA) that recognizes his commitment to sportsmanship and respect for golf's traditions, Associated Press reports. “This award goes beyond playing performance, recognizing the lasting impact of one person's journey that has forever changed the image and growth of golf,” said Mike Whan, the CEO of the USGA.

“There are very few who stand alongside Tiger Woods in terms of on-course accomplishments, and he is in a class of his own when it comes to the impact he has made on the game and future generations who will play it,” he added.

Paulo Dybala scored a goal and set up another as AS Roma won at Monza 4-1 in Serie A 2023-24 to continue their resurgence under new coach Daniele De Rossi. Former professional basketball player Rashid Byrd has been sentenced to 90 years in jail for sexual assault. The Los Angeles Police Department said a probe into Byrd started in 2019. A victim claimed that she had been sexually assaulted by him, reports deadline.com.

“During their investigation, detectives learned (that) in 2010, Byrd was convicted of sexual assault involving a different victim,” a statement by LAPD read. “Detectives also discovered that Byrd had been arrested for sexually assaulting a young woman in Washington State in 2005,” it added.

Cometh the crisis, cometh the man. Shardul Thakur, affectionately christened 'Lord', has rescued Mumbai from a precarious situation. The all-rounder is batting at 79 off just 75 balls and has stretched Mumbai's lead over Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semi-final to 102 runs, at tea on Day 2.

Young wicketkeeper batter Robin Minz, who was signed by Gujarat Titans in the IPL auction in December last year, met with a minor accident and is recuperating in a local hospital in Ranchi, said his father Francis, according to PTI reports. The opening two rounds were closely contested, with both fighters fighting from the start. The young pugilist from Azerbaijan used his speed and quick moves to make things difficult for Deepak in the ring. Deepak lost the first and second rounds with identical scores of 2-3.

India's Anirban Lahiri finished tied-sixth in the third event of the LIV Golf League with a final round of 5-under 65 at the Par-70 Royal Greens in Jeddah, according to PTI reports. After rounds of 68-67, the 36-year-old Lahiri shot 65 in the third round to total 10-under.

It was his best finish on the LIV Series, having signed off at T-44 and T-21 in the first two events.

According to PTI reports, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Sunday terminated the services of its principal legal advisor Nilanjan Bhattacharjee after he made serious "corruption allegations" against President Kalyan Chaubey, who had termed them "baseless".

In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, Bhattacharjee said Chaubey worked out "corruption avenues" through a non-transparent tender process and preferential allotment of tender.

According to PTI reports, the multiple-time world champion Pankaj Advani was up and dominating as he retained his crown during the CCI Snooker Classic, handing challenger Kamal Chawla an 8-3 defeat in the best-of-15-frame final in Mumbai on Sunday.

It is a result that will have ramifications across the points table, with Mumbai City FC (35) and Mohun Bagan Super Giant (33) with a good chance to displace Odisha FC (35) from the top.

Phil Foden kept Manchester City's Premier League title hopes alive with a brilliant second-half double as his team rallied to defeat Manchester United 3-1 at home on Sunday. Marcus Rashford's eighth-minute thunderbolt put United ahead against the flow of play, and it appeared like the visitors may harm City's chances of a fourth consecutive title.

Burnley's winless run was extended to 10 games in all competitions after a 2-0 home loss against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, according to AP reports.

Vincent Kompany's team has not won a game in 2024 and will need a massive turnaround in form to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

Burnley is 11 points from safety and only above last-place Sheffield United on goal difference.
