Sachin Siwach defeats William Hewitt in Men's 60kg Round of 16 to progress to the quarter-finals. The Indian boxer wins by split decision.
Indian boxer Sachin Siwach is in action in the men's 60kg Round of 16 bout against England's Hewitt.
A commendable jump of 7.77m in his initial attempt for the Indian athlete in Group B qualification -- and that should be sufficient for him to reach the final. Currently, he ranks #4 among the two groups. Former world champion Tajay Gayle recorded a jump of 7.74m in his first try. Sreeshankar Murali (from Group A) is the sole athlete to have achieved the automatic qualification standard of 8.00m (he jumped 8.01m) - and he accomplished this on his first attempt.
Samuel Bennett from England secures the top position with a time of 13.20 seconds, followed by Jerome Campbell from Jamaica in second place with 13.33 seconds, and Tejas Ashok Shirse finishing third with a time of 13.76 seconds.
Gurindervir arrived at the Commonwealth Games with high hopes of achieving a sub-10 second time, but his heat time of 10.39 seconds fell short of qualifying for the semifinals. With two heats remaining, Gurindervir currently holds the eighteenth-fastest time, eliminating him from the competition, as only the top 17 times advance to the semifinals.
Gurindervir has dropped to seventeenth place following Heat 8, and his chances of advancing in the Commonwealth Games are nearly extinguished, especially with two competitors who have personal bests under 10 seconds yet to compete. It's important to note that only the top 17 times will secure a spot in the semifinals.
Sajan Prakash put forth a commendable performance, securing second place in Heat 2 with a time of 1:58.59, which is slightly above his personal best of 1:57.09. Nevertheless, he recorded the seventh-fastest time across all three heats combined, successfully advancing to the final!
Here is medal contender Murali Sreeshankar, who earned a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, aiming to improve upon that performance. His initial jump is outstanding, eliciting gasps of admiration from the audience, and it appears he has achieved the qualification for the final (the automatic qualification mark is 8m). And he has qualified! With a jump of 8.01m, he has successfully qualified for the final, and Sreeshankar leaves the area joyfully. Just one jump was all it took.
India's fastest man stopped the clock at 10.39s to finish second behind Jamaica's Rohan Watson (10.13s) in Heat 4, but the job is far from done. Gurindervir produced a tidy start before losing ground in the closing metres, recording the slowest winning/qualifying heat time so far. As things stand, the Indian is eighth-fastest overall, but with seven heats still to come, his place in the semifinals remains under threat. Only the 10 fastest athletes across all heats will progress, meaning Gurindervir can afford no more than two runners to better his 10.39s if he is to stay in the qualification spots.
The rain has made conditions far from ideal, with the wet track already slowing down the early heats. But now it's India's turn, as national record holder Gurindervir Singh settles into the blocks for Heat 4 of the men's 100m. With only the 10 fastest times across 11 heats advancing to the semifinals, every stride will count. The slippery surface leaves little margin for error, but if anyone can rise to the challenge, it's the man who owns India's fastest-ever time of 10.09 seconds.
The first two heats have laid down an early marker, with Ghana's Abdul-Rasheed Saminu clocking a sensational 10.01s to emerge as the fastest so far. Earlier, Nigeria's Favour Ashe comfortably won Heat 1 in 10.10s, ahead of Kenya's Meshack Babu (10.21s). With only the 10 fastest athletes across all 11 heats progressing, regardless of finishing position, every hundredth of a second matters. Gurindervir Singh, who features in Heat 4, will need a quick run to secure one of those coveted semifinal spots.
All eyes are on Gurindervir Singh as the national record holder begins his Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign in the men's 100m heats. Fresh from clocking a historic 10.09 seconds, the fastest ever by an Indian, Gurindervir will line up in Heat 4 with one goal: secure a smooth qualification for the next round. With 11 heats in total, a composed start and a strong finish will be key as India's sprint star looks to make his mark in Glasgow.
India's athletics campaign gathers pace as Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh Tamilarasan line up for the men's 400m hurdles opening round. Both athletes will be focused on producing clean, controlled runs to secure qualification for the next stage. With every fraction of a second likely to matter, the duo will be looking to keep India's hopes alive in one of athletics' most demanding events.
The wait is over as India's Day 5 action at the Commonwealth Games 2026 begins with Pooja Singh in the women's high jump qualification. Fresh off a breakthrough season that saw her clear a personal best of 1.93m, the young Indian will be aiming to safely negotiate the qualifiers and secure a place in Tuesday's medal round. It's the perfect opportunity for Pooja to carry her recent form onto the Commonwealth stage and give India an early boost.
Day 4 was another memorable one for India at the Commonwealth Games. Mirabai Chanu scripted history by claiming her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, once again proving why she remains one of India's greatest sporting icons. Rishikanta Singh and M Raja added to the celebrations with impressive silver medals in weightlifting, further boosting India's tally.
There was, however, heartbreak in the lawn bowls arena. Defending champions Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh saw their title defence end in dramatic fashion, losing to England in a tense tie-break after a decisive final bowl denied India a place in the semifinals.
India's top track and field athletes are in action today, with Gurindervir Singh leading the charge. India's fastest man will be looking to continue his impressive form, while his rivalry with Animesh Kujur remains one of the biggest talking points in Indian sprinting.
Meanwhile, veteran swimmer Sajan Prakash is in the final phase of his career, making every race and appearance even more special.
