Good evening, football lovers. We are building up to the start of the Premier League matchday 36 fixture between Man City and Brentford. Watch this space for pre-match news and live updates.
The match kicks off at 10pm IST. The Manchester City vs Brentford, Premier League 2025-26 game will be live streamed on the JioHotstar app and website and telecast on the Star Sports Network TV channels in India.
Pep Guardiola brings in Nathan Ake and Tijjani Reijnders in his line-up for tonight:
Manchester City starting XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Guehi, Ake, O'Reilly, Silva, Reijnders, Semenyo, Doku, Cherki, Haaland.
For Brentford, Kristoffer Ajer replaces Sepp van den Berg, and Aaron Hickey comes in for Dango Ouattara. Here's the line-up manager Keith Andrews has gone with:
Brentford starting XI: Kelleher, Kayode, Hickey, Ajer, Collins, Lewis-Potter, Jensen, Yarmoliuk, Schade, Damsgaard, Thiago.
In prior Premier League games, Man United play a 0-0 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, while Brighton blank Wolves 3-0. Bournemouth, meanwhile, edge 1-0 past Fulham in a game which had both teams down to 10 men.
After the customary pre-match formalities, play is underway at Etihad Stadium. Man City kicking from left to right and Brentford the other way in the first half. The Bees try to go the aerial route straight away with a long ball, but the move fails to fox the City defence.
City are expectedly pressing forward and testing the Brentford defence from time to time, but the Bees are undeterred and responding in kind too. No chance of substance yet for either side, however.
Brentford earn a free kick and Man City present to them a dangerously high line. But the tactic works and the threat is easily quelled as the hosts swiftly counter-attack and earn a corner. Nothing comes of it, however.
Man City hover around the Brentford box, trying to find an opening. But the visitors' defenders are alive to it and proactively keep the ball and the City strikers away from their goal. It will be interesting to see how long this resistance lasts, and whether it frustrates the home team.
After two added minutes, the referee brings the first half to a close. It's 0-0 at the Etihad Stadium as all the Man City attempts have come to nought so far. Keith Andrews would without doubt be the happier of the two managers, though things could change rapidly in the second half.
The players are back from the lemon break and the second half kicks off in Manchester. Brentford now attacking from left to right and City the other way. Neither side has made any substitutions post the break.
Brentford's first corner of the game arrives in the 55th minute, though it amounts to nothing. It follows a really promising move from the visitors wherein Michael Kayode sets up Igor Thiago, who takes a first-touch crack at the Man City goal. Gianluigi Donnarumma keeps it out, however, and the biggest chance for the Bees so far is nipped in the bud.
Jeremy Doku breaks the deadlock! The red-hot Man City striker ends his side's wait for an opener with a visionary goal. The number 11 cuts in from the left flank and dribbles around the Brentford box before unleashing a lovely, curling shot that nestles into the far top corner. No chance for the Bees' goalie, and Man City are buoyant again!
Kevin Schade goes down in the City box and claims it was because of a nudge by Matheus Nunes. VAR is called for, but replays suggest there was not enough contact to deem it a foul. Play resumes with Man City holding on to their lead.
Erling Haaland comes out of hibernation to find the back of the net! The prolific Man City forward is in the right place at the right time to control the ball amid a melee at the Bees' goalmouth, and taps it in to double Cityzens' lead. Not the prettiest goal Haaland has scored or will score, but he will take it, and so will City fans.
Five minutes have been added to the second half as stoppage time. Brentford need a miraculous turnaround to rescue any points from here. The goal-scoring Doku, meanwhile is subbed out for Savinho.
That's the match done and dusted. Omar Marmoush latches on to Haaland's assist and finishes clinically to make it 3-0. Not only will that cut Arsenal's lead at the top to two points, it will also make the goal differences remarkably similar - Gunners' +41 against Man City's +40. Could prove to be decisive in the title race.
There it is, the full-time whistle. Man City do what they needed to, keeping abreast with the Gunners as three more matchdays remain. A maximum of nine more points available for both teams, and anything can happen in the business end!
