Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the seventh match from Group A clash between UAE and Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
The UAE and Oman have faced each other nine times in T20 internationals, with UAE holding a slender edge in the rivalry, winning five matches compared to Oman’s four. Their battles have often been closely contested, reflecting the competitive nature of the two Gulf sides.
The UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem was his side's only performer with the bat in the game against India in the Asia Cup 2025. His side were bowled out for 57 with Waseem scoring 19 runs and came into this tournament on the back of a great showing in the T20I series featuring Pakistan and Afghanistan. Oman captain Jatinder Singh will look to outdo his counterpart as this Middle-East rivalry heads to Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday, September 15.
The average first-innings score here is about 166. The pitch offers a fair contest between bat and ball, with both departments likely to have their moments. The powerplay will be a key phase, as the new ball is expected to swing for the first few overs under lights.
The UAE vs Oman, Asia Cup 2025 Group A match will be telecast on the Sony Sports Network. Simultaneously, one can also watch the matches on the SonyLIV and FanCode app and website, respectively.

The Oman players gather in a tight huddle with their coaches for some final words before play begins. Out in the middle, UAE openers Alishan Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem make their way to the crease, ready to set the tone for their side’s innings.
A tidy start from Shakeel Ahmed as he keeps things tight with the new ball, conceding just a single in the opening over to put early pressure on the UAE batters.
Early signs suggest this is a sluggish surface, where hitting a good length and targeting the stumps forces the batters into risky shots. Alishan Sharafu, with his ILT20 experience, managed to break the shackles with UAE’s first boundary, but even that came with difficulty as he needed pace on the ball and had to step away to the leg side to create room.
Looking at the sequence, the overs with dots, singles, and the odd wide suggest tight spin bowling, forcing the batters to work hard for runs. In contrast, the overs featuring boundaries and extras — particularly the fours and wides — are more typical of pace, where slight errors in line or length were punished.
UAE finish the powerplay strongly, reaching a 50-run opening stand after an initially slow start. The openers shifted gears in the last three overs, adding 39 runs to build momentum. While Shakeel Ahmed kept things tight early on with two economical overs, the rest of the attack struggled for control, allowing Alishan Sharafu (31* off 22) and Muhammad Waseem (16* off 14) to give their side a solid platform.
At the halfway mark, UAE find themselves in a commanding position with 83 runs on the board without losing a wicket. Alishan Sharafu is leading the charge, just two runs away from a well-deserved half-century on 48 off 35 balls, while captain Muhammad Waseem has played the perfect supporting role with 32 from 25 deliveries. The surface looks like a batting paradise, and the openers are making the most of it, setting a solid foundation for a big total.
Alishan Sharafu’s adventurous innings ends on 51 off 38, his aggression in the powerplay setting the tone for UAE before an attempted off-side drive cost him his off stump. Jiten Ramanandi, who deserved reward after a dropped chance earlier in the over, finally strikes, leaving Pakistan relieved but aware Waseem still survives after two reprieves.
Shrivastava strikes after a shaky start, cleaning up Asif with a clever short delivery that spun back in sharply. Asif, caught pushing away from his body, only managed an inside edge that dragged the ball onto his off stump, giving the bowler his first breakthrough of the spell.
Muhammad Waseem brings up his half-century in emphatic fashion, launching a flighted half-volley over long-off for six. The UAE skipper reaches his fifty off style, leading from the front and earning a warm applause from his teammates in the dugout.
Zuhaib’s stay comes to an end as Jiten Ramanandi strikes with a clever slower ball. Looking to heave across the line, Zuhaib skies it off the toe end towards short third man, where Shrivastava takes a sharp catch while backpedaling. A well-judged effort brings Oman their third wicket and breaks a promising 49-run stand.
UAE have posted a strong total after being asked to bat, thanks to a solid 88-run opening stand between Alishan Sharafu (51) and skipper Muhammad Waseem (69). The pair took their time early on but accelerated smartly, both reaching well-deserved half-centuries. Waseem nearly carried his bat, while quick cameos from Zohaib and Kaushik provided the late flourish that pushed UAE past the 170-run mark.
Welcome back for the chase as Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem stride out to open for Oman, with Junaid Siddique taking the new ball for UAE. Singh strides out his frontfoot and delivers a four straightaway.
WICKET! Aamir Kaleem is brilliantly caught at mid-off by Harshit Kaushik. Junaid Siddique pitched it up outside off, Kaleem tried to loft it over mid-off but mistimed it, sending a flat shot straight to Kaushik, who dived to his right inside the circle and held on to complete a fine catch.
Siddique strikes again, claiming his second wicket by dismissing Oman skipper Jatinder Singh, who chops it back onto the stumps. Bowling a slower delivery on a length outside off, Siddique deceives Jatinder, who tries to drive on the up but gets an inside edge straight back onto the stumps. Siddique has now accounted for both of Oman’s openers and is visibly delighted with his impact.
End of the powerplay! UAE mirrored their batting dominance with the ball, reducing Oman to 41/4. Junaid Siddique, Haider Ali, and Muhammad Rohid Khan struck early, leaving debutant Aryan Bisht and Faisal Shah at the crease. Oman now face a tough chase, needing 132 runs off 84 balls.
At the halfway stage, it’s drinks with Oman in deep trouble at 74/5, still needing 99 runs off 60 balls. Both pace and spin have combined superbly for UAE, keeping the scoring rate in check and striking regularly to put the hosts firmly ahead in the contest.
BOWLED! Debutant Aryan Bisht’s fighting knock ends on 24 as Jawadullah strikes with his very first over. Clocking 136.7 kph, he delivered a length ball on middle, with Bisht clearing his front leg to make room but missing completely. The stumps were shattered, breaking the partnership and pushing Oman further on the back foot.
Oman bring up their 100, but the chase remains steep with 73 runs needed from 35 balls and only 4 wickets in hand. The UAE bowlers continue to keep the pressure on as the asking rate climbs.
GONE! The bowling change works wonders for UAE as Junaid Siddique strikes at 135.9 kph, banging a hard length to remove Shukla, who miscued a pull straight to Jawadullah at short fine leg. Soon after, Jawadullah grabbed his second wicket, forcing Ramanandi into a rash shot that ballooned to Sharafu at short third man, leaving Oman in deeper trouble.
BOWLED! Junaid Siddique bags his fourth as Oman lose their penultimate wicket. Delivering a clever back-of-the-hand slower ball, full and straight on off stump, he outfoxed Hassnain, who cleared his front leg for a big swipe but swung early and missed completely, leaving his stumps rattled.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) registered their first win of the Asia Cup 2025 with a convincing 42-run victory over Oman, bouncing back strongly after their opening defeat to India. Skipper Muhammad Waseem’s 69 and Junaid Siddique’s 4/23 proved decisive as Oman slumped to their second straight loss of the tournament, leaving them on the brink of elimination.
