Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first tonight.
Pat Cummins (SRH): We will bowl first. I think we have played some good cricket of late. We will try to keep our bowling simple and let them play to their strengths. Hinge comes back in. I think we are not bothered about the pressure; it’s a good chasing ground.
Riyan Parag (RR): We also would have bowled first as it’s a good chasing ground. This has been a good ground, as we have chased and defended. I am unfit to play. Even now, we have no other option than to win, I am happy with the team’s performance if we play to our potential. Jaddu comes back in; Dubey is the impact.

Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi walk out on the middle of the crease to open for RR. Cummins has the new ball for SRH and makes a terrific start, bowling straight to the stumps and getting the yorkers absolutely spot on. The final ball of the over is a full delivery, and Sooryavanshi smacks it out of the park for a six.
The Sooryavanshi party has started! The youngster ends the Malinga over with a massive six over backward square leg. Then he takes on one of the greatest bowlers, Cummins, hitting him for three consecutive maximums. Stupendous batting, this.
The Boss Baby is unstoppable at the moment. He hits Sakib for three sixes, overtaking the great Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in a T20 tournament. Gayle had 59, Sooryavanshi has 60 right now. That is also his half-century in just 16 balls – the joint fastest in an IPL knockout match. Sooryavanshi is taking the match away from SRH’s control.
A brilliant first over from Hinge, all things considered, with just six runs coming from it. At the end of the powerplay, Rajasthan Royals have reached 80 with all 10 wickets in hand. It’s also the time for a strategic timeout for SRH.
Oh dear, Sooryavanshi, what did you do?! He was on 97 off 28 balls, just three runs off what would have been the fastest century in IPL history. And then eh throws his wicket in such a disappointing manner. It was short and wide from Hinge, and Sooryavanshi manages to pick out Smaran at deep third. Nevertheless, this has been a generational knock from the youngster.
Shivang opens the 11th over with the wicket of Jaiswal, who holes the googly straight to Abhishek. But any hopes for a comeback is immediately dashed as Jurel hits a bit slog sweep that goes for a six – the first not hit tonight by Sooryavanshi. Parag joins in with another six to close the over.
After reaching a rapid fifty in 20 balls, Jurel falls prey to a shorter delivery from Hinge. He tries to pull but does not get enough distance on the ball, and Reddy grabs it at deep square leg. Donovan Ferreira is the new batter.
Fourth wicket down for RR as Parag departs after a well-made 26 off 12 balls. The skipper was clearly struggling while running between the wickets and was forced to rely on the big shots, but this time, he fails to clear the ropes, finding Klaasen at long-on. Dasun Shanaka, the new batter, opens his account with a boundary.
A seamer right in the slot for Shanaka, but the RR batter's shot gets the height, not the distance. A nervy catch for Abhishek at long-on, and SRH will try to make most of this momentum that they have got. Jadeja is the new batter. Ferreira gets a lucky boundary and then takes a single to keep the strike.
RR's tactics of piling up the twos finally backfires as Ferreira falls short of his crease, and Shivang's throw is clattered onto the stumps by Kishan. Jofra Archer, the new batter, opns his account with a boundary, and then is taken just on the boundary rope by Abhishek – a terrific catch, by the way.
A really messy end to the RR innings, with some poor running between the wickets and Sakib's brilliant death bowling restricting them to 243. When Sooryavanshi was batting, 280 looked set, and SRH have done superbly well to restrict RR to below 250.
What a start for RR!! Archer gets a slight edge off Abhishek with a short delivery towards the leg side, and it carries to the wicketkeeper. The SRH opener goes for a second ball duck. Ishan Kishan comes out as the new batter, and goes big immediately, but manages only two runs. No mistake in the next ball, which he dispatches out of the park, followed by two boundaries.
Despite the early wicket, Head and Kishan have continued the onslaught on the RR bowlers, resulting in the second fastest team fifty in the IPL. However, Archer finally gets the breakthrough, with his pace not allowing Kishan to swing the bat. He finds Ferreira at cover. Smaran Ravichandran is the new batter.
Another wicket falls for SRH as Burger gets the scalp of Smaran. He tried to swat it with power, but can't get any elevation or distance. Archer, back pedalling from mid-on, takes a solid catch. Klaasen, the new batter, is yet to open his account. A brilliant over from Burger – one wicket and one run from it.
Head misses, and Archer hits! The RR pacer's speed is simply too much for Head, who wanted to smack it towards the offside. Instead, he exposes his stumps, and the ball smashes into the middle and off stumps. SRH are in deep trouble at the moment. Nitish Kumar Reddy is the new batter. A boundary to end the over.
What a review from Yash Raj Punja. The spinner trapped Klaasen on the pads as the South African attempted a reverse slog. The youngster convinces his captain to take the review, and ball tracker shows the ball hitting the leg stump. The dangerous Klaasen has to go! Salil Arora is the new batter.
Nitish Reddy is not going to give up without a fight. He goes after Yash Raj, hitting a bounday over wide long-off before ending the over with back-to-back sixes. SRH are still 130 runs away from the target.
Smart bowling from the experienced Jadeja, who ups the speed of the delivery. Reddy goes for another big shot, but the shot is flat and is taken well by Shanaka at mid-wicket. Captain Pat Cummins come on as the new batter and opens his account with a single.
Cummins' stay is short as Archer takes a brilliant catch in the deep, grabbing on to the ball and making sure his feet do not touch the boundary ropes. Shivang Kumar is the new batter.
Salil was playing a good knock for SRH, and hit Jadeja for a six. The experienced all-rounder tosses his next delivery just a little bit wider, and Salil takes the bait. Goes for a big shot but manages to find Burger at deep extra cover. Eshan Malinga is the new batter.
Shivang Kumar and Eshan Malinga have to deal with the last three overs of the match. SRH are almost out of the contest and of the tournament. Unless RR do something foolish, it's their game to lose from here on.
How fitting that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi takes the winning catch as Rajasthan Royals prevail over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Eliminator. SRH all out for 196.
(What was it like with Sooryavanshi going crazy?) Yeah, he played pretty well. Yeah, just don't feel like you have too many options. Obviously, it's a really good pitch, but the margins are so small. If you miss your yorker by a little bit, he doesn't tend to miss them. So yeah, fair play. (Are there any regrets from choosing to chase?) Not really. Yeah, it's a pretty good wicket even there at the end. (On unearthing young players) Yeah, I think we end up as a really well-rounded team. Praful and Sakib were awesome. Young guys haven't played a lot. I think I saw a stat today, we're one of the youngest teams to make the playoffs or something this year, or ever, or something like that, which shows some of the talent that the coaching group have unearthed. So yeah, it's great as a captain seeing them go about it. (Did you think you can chase it at the halfway mark?) Yeah, I think a few things still need to go right to chase down 240, but if there was ever going to be a pitch and a field to do it, it was this one. I think we stayed on the rate for most of the innings. We just kind of lost probably a couple too many wickets at the wrong time. So it was always going to be tough, but gave ourselves a decent chance. (Two playoffs in three years) Yeah, that's right. You know, I think we're one tiny little bit away from being in the top two as well. So you can't ask for much more. The boys have been fantastic, their attitude all year, the way they've gone about it. It looks like they've really enjoyed their cricket, so I can't ask for any more.
We stuck to our plans, we stuck to our lengths. Usually the team that gets wickets in the powerplay wins. The good balls will go to the boundary, your bad balls as well. Against their batting line-up. The more runs we score, the more runs we have to defend. It's good for us bowlers. We are going in the right direction at the right time, we are on the right path.
I like to be a perfectionist. Today we should have got 260, right? Was impressed with the way we bowled, we came back really well. Just leave him alone, he likes batting. He goes on and does his thing. I feel it brings out more from people. When everything is on line, everyone turned up a little more. We keep on having banters. I went up to Jofra and asked him to be a little straighter. He bowls at 150 clicks, and he does his job. Rest tomorrow, we have had a great day. Need to rest and recover.
