PBKS Vs MI, IPL 2025 Qualifier 2: Shashank Singh's Lax Running Which Cost Him Run-Out

Shashank’s lax running had led to his crucial run-out at the non-striker’s end in the 17th over. With Punjab needing 35 off 21 balls and holding a strong grip on the chase, Shashank failed to sprint to safety after nudging a full toss from Trent Boult wide of mid-on

On a historic night at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings (PBKS) stormed into the IPL final for only the second time in their history — but not without a moment of controversy that briefly stole the spotlight from their monumental win. Riding on a breathtaking unbeaten 87 off 41 balls by skipper Shreyas Iyer, PBKS chased down Mumbai Indians' daunting 204-run target with six balls to spare, clinching a five-wicket victory in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025.

Iyer's knock, laced with eight sixes and five fours, was a masterclass in controlled aggression and calm under pressure. He forged a match-winning 84-run partnership with Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29), rescuing PBKS from a precarious situation after the team had lost three wickets in the powerplay.

Josh Inglis had earlier set the tone with a 21-ball 38, smashing 20 runs in a single over off Jasprit Bumrah, giving PBKS the thrust they needed in their high-octane chase.

Shashank’s lax running had led to his crucial run-out at the non-striker’s end in the 17th over. With Punjab needing 35 off 21 balls and holding a strong grip on the chase, Shashank failed to sprint to safety after nudging a full toss from Trent Boult wide of mid-on. A sharp fielding effort and a bullet throw from Hardik Pandya caught Shashank short, and his casual approach to the run left Iyer visibly livid.

Despite the hiccup, Iyer showcased why he’s considered one of the most composed captains in the modern game.

This win marks PBKS’s return to the IPL final for the first time since 2014. They now await Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in what promises to be a thrilling title decider — and notably, IPL 2025 will crown a new champion for the first time since 2016.
