Pakistan claimed a crucial five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four stage at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 23, successfully chasing a modest 134-run target with 12 balls remaining. Mohammad Nawaz and Hussain Talat forged a 58-run partnership, with this victory keeping Pakistan's tournament hopes alive.
Sri Lanka's batters struggled early, losing wickets consistently. Shaheen Shah Afridi spearheaded Pakistan's bowling, taking three wickets for 28 runs. Haris Rauf assisted, picking up two wickets for 37 runs. Spinner Abrar Ahmed excelled, giving away only eight runs in his four overs.
Kamindu Mendis top-scored for Sri Lanka with a strong 50 runs off 44 balls. Despite Mendis's efforts, Sri Lanka reached only 133 runs for eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Pakistan started their chase by losing early wickets, with Fakhar Zaman departing early. Hussain Talat anchored the innings, forming a key partnership with Mohammad Nawaz. Nawaz scored an aggressive 38 runs off 24 balls, hitting three sixes. Talat remained unbeaten on 32 runs, guiding Pakistan to their victory.
Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga posed a big bowling threat. He took two wickets for 27 runs. Hasaranga's efforts, including a superb catch to dismiss Fakhar, kept Sri Lanka in contention. However, Pakistan's lower-order batters, led by Nawaz and Talat, completed the chase successfully.
