  • DC wrapped up LSG for just 141 in their opening match in Lucknow

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are taking on each other in their opening match of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Ekana International Stadium on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

It is the first league match of both teams, and they will be vying to start their campaign on a winning note. DC are entering the tournament with a strong batting line-up, including multiple options in the opening slot - a position where they struggled a bit last year.

While KL Rahul is their first-choice opener for this year, DC have the likes of Pathum Nissanka, Prithvi Shaw, Abhishek Porel, and Karun Nair to choose from, along with him.

While there were calls for Prithvi Shaw getting the nod ahead of others, DC went with the explosive Sri Lankan batter, Pathum Nissanka, in the first match against LSG.

Prithvi Shaw is an aggressive Indian talent, but Nissanka has proved himself at the world stage against the best bowlers in the world. His explosive century against Australia in the recently concluded World Cup was a testament to Nissanka's pedigree, which is why he was chosen ahead of Shaw.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and, as per the trend of the tournament, elected to bowl first on a red soil Lucknow wicket. LSG tweaked their successful opening combination of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, with Rishabh starting the innings with Marsh and Markram pushed down to No.3.

However, it didn't go well according to expectations as Pant got run out in an unfortunate manner. LSG couldn't recover from there and were bundled out for just 141 in 18.4 overs.

Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan were the pick of the bowlers for DC, scalping three wickets each to break the back of LSG's batting order. Abdul Samad (36) was the highest scorer for Lucknow today.
