Gujarat Titans (GT) annihilated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 89 runs in Match 66 of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, May 21.
With this crushing victory, GT have sailed into Qualifier 1 to be played at the picturesque HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala, on May 26, while defending champions, RCB and SRH will fight for the other spot on May 22, with RCB having the upper hand, courtesy of a better NRR.
After being invited to bat first, GT posted a huge 230-run target for the former five-time champions on the board on the back of stylish half-centuries by Shubman Gill (64), Sai Sudharsan (84), and Jos Buttler (57*).
In response, CSK's top-order was rattled by Mohammed Siraj, who sent three of their top four batter back in the hunt within the first three overs. The Yellow Army couldn't recover from Siraj's onslaught and were wrapped up at 140 in just 13.2 overs courtesy of another three-for by Rashid Khan.
Shivam Dube (47) was the only CSK batter who could put up a fight against the GT bowlers, but was dismissed, courtesy to a spectacular catch by Shubman Gill.
With this crushing 89-run defeat, CSK are knocked out of IPL 2026 as they managed to get to only 12 points from their 14 matches. They had a fair chance of making the playoffs by winning two of their last three matches, but they lost all three, which proved a sad end to their spirited campaign.
