Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and elected to bat first, citing a dry surface. Ruturaj Gaikwad confirms that MS Dhoni is unfit and will not play in what will be the last home game of the season for CSK.

Chennai Super Kings: Sanju Samson (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Urvil Patel, Kartik Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Prashant Veer, Akeal Hosein, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Spencer Johnson

Nitish Kumar Reddy takes the new ball for SRH, and Sanju Samson walks out to open alongside skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for CSK. It's a horror start for Nitish, who oversteps on the first ball and then sees the free-hit imperiously lofted down the ground by Samson for six. The keeper-batter elegantly flicks the next ball to the boundary before ending the over with another four through the off side. Seventeen off the first over!
CSK: 17/0 (1)
Samson cracks five fours and a six before Pat Cummins snares him with an away-seaming delivery that takes the outside edge. The opener is somehow unsure of the nick and asks for DRS, which reveals a big deflection. CSK lose a review, apart from the dangerous Samson. Urvil Patel walks in, and takes on Cummins with a couple of breathtaking sixes straight away.
CSK: 46/1 (4)
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is once again finding it hard to force the pace. He is batting on 14 off 18 balls and it is putting pressure on batters at the other end to go for a boundary every ball. Urvil Patel perishes in that pursuit, and Kartik Sharma has since come in and raced to a 16-ball 32.
CSK: 89/2 (9)
CSK skipper Gaikwad finally falls for a 21-ball 15. His sluggish knock could adversely affect Chennai's chances tonight. Along the way, Ruturaj becomes only the third batter to complete 1000 runs at Chepauk. He joins the illustrious company of MS Dhoni (1,547 runs from 75 matches at an average of 40.71) and Suresh Raina (1,498 runs from 56 games at 29.96).
However, the right-hander has recorded the lowest strike rate in the powerplay in IPL 2026 at 124.6. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (126.5), Ajinkya Rahane (127) and Sai Sudharsan (144.4) are next in the list.
Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube are reviving the stuttering CSK innings with some powerful blows. The pitch is not the flattest one you will see, and as is Chepauk's wont, balls are holding in the surface repeatedly. If either of Brevis and Dube stays till the end, Chennai could entertain thoughts of a 190-plus total, which could be hard to chase.
CSK: 144/4 (16)
Praful Hinge comes back from an early hammering to bowl a disciplined final over, conceding just eight runs and catching Prashant Veer off his own bowling off the last ball. Chennai finish with a 180-run total, which might not be a bad one on this surface.
CSK: 180/7 (20)
Travis Head expectedly comes in as Impact Player to join Abhishek Sharma as SRH's fearsome opening duo walks to the middle. Mukesh Choudhary takes the new ball for CSK and after a few good deliveries, is carted by Abhishek to the off-side fence. Ten runs come off the first over, and Spencer Johnson shares the new ball with Mukesh.
CSK: 10/0 (1)
Chennai Super Kings' plan for Travishek works! The seamers starve the opening duo for boundaries, and it leads to Head top-edging one in pursuit of a release. Mukesh Choudhary takes an easy catch of his own bowling and the Aussie dangerman departs. Ishan Kishan joins Abhishek in the middle and gets busy immediately with early fours and quick singles.
SRH: 38/1 (5)
Leftie snares leftie! Akeal Hosein sends Abhishek Sharma back to the dugout, having him caught at deep backward square leg for a 21-ball 26. Chennai are employing the good-old spin strangle they are famous for, at Chepauk. The asking rate has passed the 10.5 mark and the onus is now on Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan to up the tempo.
SRH: 64/2 (9)
Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen turn on the heat! After a slowish start, Kishan is now finding his range and the gaps too. Klaasen has been swift off the beginning, taking the spinners on as is his wont. The partnership is now worth 58 runs off 32 balls and CSK must break it immediately to stay in contention.
SRH: 114/2 (13)
Sanju Samson does a Dhoni again! With the CSK legend in attendance, Samson whips off the bails in a flash to catch Klaasen's foot momentarily in the air. Noor Ahmad provides the breakthrough just when the game was slipping away from Chennai. Nitish Reddy joins Ishan Kishan, meanwhile.
SRH: 153/3 (17)
Kishan does it for Hyderabad! The southpaw hits a 47-ball 70 that takes Hyderabad to the doorstep, before Salil Arora and Smaran Ravichandran finish it off in style. SRH win by five wickets to march into the playoffs and with the result, Gujarat Titans qualify too! CSK, meanwhile now stand on the verge of elimination.
SRH: 181/5 (19) beat CSK: 180/7 (20) by five wickets
