Over 2000 Tourists Stranded In North Sikkim Due To Landslide

The tourists including domestic and foreign have been left stranded following the landslide that has left the North Sikkim area cut off for now.

Over 2,000 tourists are stranded in North Sikkim due to landslide from last Thursday.

The reports said over 2,000 tourists including foreign and domestic are stuck due to the landslide following a flashflood. 

As per reports, the road from North Sikkim district headquarters Mangan to Chungthang has been blocked at Pegong Supply Khola, disrupting vehicular traffic.

Due to the blockade, 1975 domestic and 36 foreign tourists were stranded at hotels in Lachen and Lachung areas - considered gateways to various places with scenic beauty, the reports said.

Of the foreign tourists, 23 are from Bangladesh, 10 from the US and three from Singapore, the reports said.

As many as 345 cars and 11 motorbikes were also stuck at various places in North Sikkim, the reports.

The road clearance will begin once the rain stops, the reports mentioned.
