The Yogi Government Is Shaping A Golden Future For The Youth – Shivendra Kumar Pandey

The real wealth of any state lies in the creative energy and determination of its younger generation. Therefore, the foremost responsibility of any government should be to steer the immense energy of its youth away from the whirlpool of aimlessness and neglect and towards the path of creation, security and self-reliance. The moral and administrative effectiveness of a government should also be assessed on the basis of the direction in which it channels its youth power. The sustained efforts made by the Yogi government over the past nine and a half years towards enhancing the capabilities of young people, developing their skills and creating opportunities for them are driven by the fundamental objective of ensuring that the youth become not merely beneficiaries but the vanguard of the state. It is this vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that is scripting a golden future for the youth of Uttar Pradesh.

The Yogi government's sense of responsibility towards the youth is the outcome of a well-considered policy vision, and therefore it should also be assessed with due seriousness on the basis of facts. At the policy level, perhaps the most profound impact of the Yogi government can be seen in the integrity brought to the recruitment system. There was a time when appointments to public services in the state were plagued by nepotism, corruption and the vicious era of the 'parchi-kharchi' system where recommendations and money determined one's prospects. This was a severe blow to the self-respect of millions of young people who aspired to move ahead on the strength of their talent and hard work. When recommendations and unfair means take precedence over merit, a deep distrust of the system takes root among the youth. The present system has broken this vicious cycle by making merit, transparency and fairness the sole benchmarks for selection.

The appointment of approximately 950,000 young people to government positions over nine and a half years is evidence that employment has now become a priority and a matter of policy for the government. More than 225,000 appointments in the police force represent a considered decision to entrust the state's security apparatus to young hands, while the recruitment of more than 150,000 teachers and assistant teachers in the Education Department demonstrates that the dissemination of knowledge has been accorded institutional importance. Appointments to thousands of positions in the Health Department, including staff nurses, ANMs, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, nursing officers, dental hygienists and junior analysts, confirm that the government is approaching healthcare and public health security with sensitivity.

The Yogi government's vision is equally clear within the administrative machinery. More than 48,000 appointments to PCS, Medical Officer, Assistant Engineer, Lecturer and other administrative and technical services through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission indicate a conscious effort to energise the governance system with new talent. Through the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission, more than 46,000 selections have been made for positions such as Lekhpal, Village Development Officer, Junior Assistant, Forest Guard and X-Ray Technician. This establishes that the process has not remained confined to the state capital but has reached every district and every tehsil. Regularity in the examination calendar, the facility of online applications, the right to raise objections to answer keys and the public disclosure of merit lists have together laid the foundation of the trust whose absence had caused immense distress to young people for years. When a recruitment system becomes free from the influence of parchi and kharchi and stands firmly on the principles of merit and transparency, it truly passes the moral test of governance.

The continuity of the Yogi government's policy approach can also be seen in the five decisions taken recently ahead of Janmashtami. In the present era, the dissemination and acquisition of knowledge are increasingly dependent on technology. The approval for the purchase of 2.5 million tablets makes it clear that technology is being viewed as an instrument of youth empowerment while also addressing a contemporary necessity. The move to facilitate reimbursement of fees for 316,000 students demonstrates that financial constraints will no longer become a permanent barrier to talent. Increasing the stipend for medical interns from ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 is an expression of respect for the hard work of future doctors. Direct recruitment to 50 percent of the posts of Assistant Development Officers (Panchayat) opens the door for new talent to enter rural administration. Providing social security along with remuneration of ₹20,000 to ₹40,000 to 350,000 outsourced workers demonstrates that the government's vision extends to the vast workforce that often remains outside the ambit of policy interventions.

Alongside intellectual and technological development, the physical and mental strength of any society is shaped on its sporting fields. Ancient Indian wisdom has always held that a healthy body is the foremost means for the fulfilment of all duties and goals. Uttar Pradesh has moved sports beyond the realm of merely an extracurricular activity and placed them within the central framework of career, prestige and national pride. The establishment of Khelo India Centres in all districts is a positive initiative aimed at taking hidden talent from villages to international platforms. Free training at 44 residential sports hostels, government appointments for more than 534 sportspersons, training in 14 sports disciplines at five sports colleges, and the goal of establishing 'One Division-One Sports College' all demonstrate that sports are no longer being treated as an occasional hobby but as a subject of long-term career policy.

Beyond government and institutional efforts, making young people self-reliant as the real engines of the economy is the most sustainable solution. Uttar Pradesh's bold experiment of connecting its centuries-old traditional craftsmanship and regional handicrafts with modern markets through the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative has opened new horizons of employment. The strategy of linking the ODOP scheme with MSMEs has helped redefine the state's economic structure. Today, more than 96 lakh MSME units provide employment to more than three crore people, with young people constituting the largest share. This fact demonstrates that the government has viewed the youth not merely as job seekers but also as entrepreneurs and creators.

If this entire discourse is viewed with ideological seriousness, it connects with the nationalist intellectual tradition in which the strength of a nation has been regarded as a reflection of the strength of its youth. Veer Savarkar's thought that the boundaries of a nation are determined not by rivers and mountains but by the valour and courage of its young people remains equally relevant today. From this perspective, recruitment policies, self-employment schemes and sports infrastructure are initiatives that help shape the future boundaries and capabilities of the nation.

A government that channels the energy of its youth away from aimlessness and towards creation is, in effect, laying the foundation for the nation's future. Criticism and challenges naturally accompany any major transformation, and in a democracy, they are also an essential part of healthy debate. However, this continuing chain of figures, the consistency of these policies and the transparency that has returned to the recruitment process bear testimony to the fact that Uttar Pradesh has embarked upon a serious and far-sighted path.
