Secure Future For UP Girls: Education, Leadership, And Economic Power

From achieving early classroom milestones to high-tech startups and village-based enterprise leadership, Uttar Pradesh is ensuring that every girl child has a bright, secure, and empowered future.

A girl's journey toward leadership and self-reliance in Uttar Pradesh is supported from early childhood to higher education, jobs, and entrepreneurship. Targeted educational support is paired with financial incentives and enterprise opportunities. Uttar Pradesh is building an ecosystem where women can learn, earn, and lead the economy.

Supporting Education and Early Milestones

The future of a young girl begins long before she enters higher education or starts a business. The Uttar Pradesh government has launched multiple key social initiatives to develop positive social attitudes toward the girl child and ensure continuous educational support for them:

  • Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana: This scheme provides eligible girls with up to Rs 25,000. This is direct milestone-based financial assistance from birth through graduation. To date, over 29 lakh girls have benefited from the scheme, with Rs 712.23 crore disbursed.

  • Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas: 746 residential schools for girls offer quality education from Classes 6 to 12 in educationally backward blocks. These schools are undergoing upgrades, including ICT labs and smart classrooms.

  • Self-Defence and Merit Incentives: More than 10.78 lakh girls across 38,465 upper-primary and composite schools of the state have received Rani Lakshmibai self-defence training. Under the Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Yojana, meritorious Class XII girls receive free scooters to encourage higher learning mobility.

Safety and Awareness Outreach:

Awareness drives under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao reached 55.50 lakh women and girls during 2025–26. Furthermore, the Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Evam Bal Samman Kosh has provided Rs 619.98 crore in compensation to support 17,653 victims of heinous crimes.

Women Leading the Economy and Enterprise

A business built by a woman not just creates products but also generates jobs, builds skills, and expands economic opportunities for her entire community. Female Workforce Participation in Uttar Pradesh has jumped from a meagre 12% to 36%. A dramatic expansion in female entrepreneurship is reflected in this.

  • Startup Culture: Over 12,000 (50%) of the state’s total 24,000+ registered startups are women-led.

  • State Startup & MSME Policies: Women-led startups get an extra 50% incentive on approved prototype and seed-capital grants under the UP Startup Policy 2026. Similarly, under the MSME Promotion Policy, female founders get enhanced interest subsidies and a 100% stamp-duty exemption.

  • Financial Assistance for Mothers: Mothers receive Rs 5,000 for their first child and Rs 6,000 if their second child is a girl under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

Rural Women as New Leaders of Society

The most remarkable shift is unfolding across the villages of Uttar Pradesh. In rural communities, women are stepping into professions that were once out of their reach. Over 10.66 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have mobilised 1.25 crore women into grassroots economic networks:

  • Under the Lakhpati Didis scheme, more than 28.16 lakh SHG members earn over Rs 1 lakh annually, securing long-term economic independence.

  • Community Banking & Energy Services: Rural digital financial transactions worth over Rs 46,000 crore (earning Rs 126.5 crore in income) have been facilitated by over 39,890 BC Sakhis. While Vidyut Sakhis, 16,021 of them, have collected electricity bills exceeding Rs 3,562 crore.

  • Dairy & Green Economy: Over 3.88 lakh women livestock farmers generate Rs 5,716 crore+ in the dairy business. Women also participate in the green technology revolution, as 5,433 women solar entrepreneurs contribute to over 28.5 MW of renewable energy capacity, while rural women train as drone pilots under Namo Drone Didi.
