An Indian man has claimed ownership of an 800 sq km land area between Egypt and Sudan.

Suyash Dixit, the 24-year-old businessman from Indore, who is the CEO of a tech firm was travelling to Cairo for a software developers' conference earlier this month, when he came to know about Bir Tawil, a large area between Egypt and Sudan, reported The Times of India

The area has no permanent residents and it is arid and remote due to a complicated colonial-era border demarcation history.

Many adventurers and explorers have attempted to get ownership of the land but nobody has got any international recognition yet.

Dixit reached Bir Tawil on November 4 after completing a 6-hour journey from Abu Simbel in a rented car.

He told the newspaper,"There, I realized nobody was bothered about it, so I decided to claim it for myself. I planted sunflower seeds there, which is a traditional way to claim ownership of land."

Dixit returned home on November 9.

Before leaving the place, he planted a flag for the 'Kingdom of Dixit'. He has also made his father the president of the kingdom.

He has written an online petition to the UN  informing them about his claim, and requesting recognition. So, far he has received support from 800 people.

"I am not very optimistic that they will reply," says Dixit.
