The cycle rally, held alongside the Chintan Shivir, a national gathering of ministers and key stakeholders discussing India’s preparations for the 2028 LA Olympics and the bid for the 2036 Summer Games, attracted significant interest from members of Kanha Shanti Vanam, a wellness and spiritual center where the event took place.
On Women’s Day, Mandaviya, Assam Sports Minister Shrimati Nandita Garlosa, Sports Secretary Shrimati Sujata Chaturvedi, and former Olympian Pulella Gopichand launched the ASMITA newsletter.
The newsletter highlights the government’s ‘Sports For Women’ initiative, started in 2021, and emphasizes the role of ASMITA leagues in inspiring young women to pursue careers in sports.
Former All-England champion Gopichand, who has coached Olympic medallists like Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu, said, "Women have won more Olympic medals for India, and it’s only fair that they receive more promotion."
He added, "ASMITA provides a platform, and when 15 sports ministers join Mandaviya to discuss the future of sports and pursue our Olympic dreams, it’s a significant initiative. The key is to create and implement the right policies effectively."
