Indian shuttlers are taking on some of the biggest names in the badminton world for the prestigious team events. The 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup started on May 8 and will conclude on May 17. All the matches are being played at Impact Arena, Nonthaburi in Thailand.
16 teams each are competing in the Thomas And Uber Cup Finals 2022. Indonesia and China are the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup defending champions, respectively. Indonesia are the most successful side in the Thomas Cup with 14 titles, while China are the most successful team in the Uber Cup with 15 titles.
India men were in Group C along with Chinese Taipei, Germany and Canada. India women were in Group D, along with South Korea, Canada and the United States.
India chase history
Indian men's badminton team Malaysia 3-2 to enter the semifinals of the Thomas Cup for the first time in 43 years but the women's side bowed out after losing 0-3 to Thailand in the Uber Cup. India is thus assured of at least a bronze at the Thomas Cup. The country has not won a medal at the event since 1979.
India men then defeated Denmark to enter the final. In their maiden final, HS Prannoy & Co. will face 14-time champions Indonesia on Sunday.
