FIFA World Cup 2022: Michy Batshuayi Goal Helps Belgium Scrape A Narrow 1-0 Win Over Canada – In Pics

Canada are appearing only in their second FIFA World Cup and were close beating Belgium as they started the game on the bright note. In the 9th minute, Canada were awarded a penalty, giving Alphonso Davies a golden chance to score his country’s first World Cup goal and fire them into the lead against a star-studded Belgian side. The Bayern Munich man missed the penalty as Belgium keeper Thibaut Courtois dived the right way, saving the shot. In the culminating stages of the first half, Michy Batshuayi scored for the Belgians to give them the lead going into halftime. Toby Alderweireld lifted the ball from deep and Batshuayi buried it in the far corner. Even though Belgium went with a 1-0 advantage in the first half, it was Canada who had more attempts on goal as they looked to exploit spaces left in Belgium’s 3-4-3 formation. The Red Devils took better control of the game in the second half and stopped Canadian attacks while also penetrating deep in the Canada half.
