Summary of this article
  • A mob allegedly attacked residents in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase-3.

  • The violence reportedly followed objections to the harassment of a young woman.

  • Around 15 people were injured, including a 10-year-old boy.

A group of people allegedly attacked residents inside a housing society in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase-3 on Sunday evening after locals objected to the alleged harassment of a young woman.

Residents said around 10 to 15 people were injured in the violence, including a 10-year-old boy who is undergoing treatment in the ICU and is reported to be in critical condition, NDTV reported.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of around 10 to 15 men entered the residential complex and assaulted people, triggering panic among those living there. Locals claimed the violence began after some residents confronted a man over the alleged molestation of a young woman.

Residents alleged that the accused later returned with several associates and attacked people across the society.

CCTV footage recorded at around 9.25 pm purportedly showed a group running through the area and throwing stones towards residents inside the complex. Another video allegedly showed a person assaulting people with a stick.

Child Suffers Serious Injuries

Local residents said between 10 and 15 people were injured in the attack, with four to five of them reportedly sustaining serious injuries.

The sister of the 10-year-old boy told NDTV that her brother had accompanied a relative to take photographs when he was attacked.

"My brother is 10 years old. He had gone along with our cousin, who is around 27-28 years old. They had gone to take some photographs. After that, my brother was attacked. The people involved hit him with stones from behind. My brother suffered serious injuries. He has developed a blood clot and is in a critical condition," she said.

She alleged that the attackers were armed with stones and wooden sticks.

"One of them had a large stone in his hand. He was also carrying a wooden stick. It was quite broad and even had nails in it," she said.

According to her, the family directly saw three people involved in the assault.

"We saw only three people with our eyes. I don't know whether there was anyone else in the vehicle, but we saw three men carrying out the attack," she said.

She further claimed that one of the accused lived in the Gharoili area of Mayur Vihar Phase-3 and said the family had submitted his photographs to the authorities.

"We have photographs of him and have already handed them over," she said.

AAP MLA Questions Law And Order

Local AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar visited the area during the night and spoke to residents following the incident.

Kumar questioned how such violence could occur despite a police outpost being located about 500 metres from the society.

He also criticised the law-and-order situation in Delhi, alleging that criminals were acting without fear despite the national capital having what he described as a "four-engine government".

The MLA urged Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to ensure that those responsible were arrested at the earliest.

Police have begun investigating the violence and are examining CCTV recordings from the area to identify the people involved.

Officials are also collecting statements from eyewitnesses and residents as part of the probe.

Police said further action would be taken on the basis of the evidence gathered during the investigation.
