The Maoists allegedly killed a 65-year-old man in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Sunday as they suspected him to be a police informer.

According to PTI, the body of the man was found near Gitilipi village in the Goilkera police station area.

The Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar told PTI that a couple of Maoist leaflets were found beside the body that stated that the man was killed as he was a police informer.

But the police claimed that the man had no connections with them.

According to the SP, on Saturday night, the throat of the man was slit by the Maoists allegedly and then they dumped the body. Shekhar told Hindustan Times, "Naxalites have killed 62-year-old Rando Surin in the jungles near Lobabera late last night by slitting his throat. They branded him as a ‘police informer’ but the deceased had nothing to do with the police. A police team has rushed to the spot this morning."

Reportedly the deceased is identified as Rando Surin who lived in Harinaurh tollah of Kadamdiha village.

The leaflet found near the dead body reportedly said, "Work as a labourer, farmer, agriculturist etc but don’t work as SPO or informer. If such people surrender to us, we will forgive them."

A search operation was underway to find those involved in the killing, the SP said.

SP also told HT, "The Maoists talk of fighting to highlight and uphold the problems of the poor, downtrodden and backwards. In reality, they are killing innocent villagers. They have planted IEDs and laid booby traps everywhere in and around the jungles, which is resulting in deaths of villagers. Many jawans have also been injured. We have recovered 225 Maoist IEDs, including directional since November last year."
