IndiGo Airlines: Two Flights Undergo Mid-Air Engine Shut Down, Land Safely Later

First a Madurai-Mumbai IndiGo flight reported an engine failure earlier yesterday followed by a similar incident that took place in a Kolkata-Bengaluru flight. As per media reports, both these aircraft were running on Pratt and Whitney engines.

Two flights of IndiGo Airlines on Tuesday underwent similar technical glitches that involved mid-air engine shut down. However, both the flights ended up with safe landing later.

First a Madurai-Mumbai flight and later a Kolkata-Bengaluru flight underwent mid-air glitches. As per media reports, both these aircraft were running on Pratt and Whitney engines.

"Engine 2 stall occurred and Engine 2 oil chip detected warning came. Engine 2 was shut down as per the checklist and the aircraft landed safely," the country's aviation regulator, the DGCA, said in a statement.

IndiGo also released a statement, citing a technical issue before landing in Mumbai.

"The pilot prioritized the landing in Mumbai. The aircraft is held in Mumbai and will be back in operation after necessary maintenance. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers," IndiGo said.
